Rep. Gibbons' Speech is a Redo

Much has been made of Congressman Jim Gibbons (R-NV)recent speech intended to rally the GOP.

Patriotic spirits soared as Elko's Grand Old Party had a grand old party Friday night at its annual Lincoln Day Dinner. The fervor was whipped up by a fiery speech by Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., during which he passionately proclaimed his heartfelt support for troops waging the war on terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan and voiced blistering contempt for certain celebrities for giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

Atrios reports it's been given before - and by someone other than him.

My God he can't even think up his own insane hate-filled anti-Christian anti-American diatribe?

Plagiarism is OK if you're a Republican

technically it's not plagiarism, they all say the same things over and over and over, like it truly is from a playbook. i.e., TL's wingnuts, when have you heard original thought from any of them? some in this space will argue that wmd's (or capabilities) were found! yes, they have been assimilated into the collective, their thought is not their own, their actions are not their own. but they’re proud and happy.

Given that few of these people ever speak an original thought, any chance they use the same speechwriter?

Has anyone checked to see if the AL State Auditor and this GOPer have/had any staff in common? Not that I'm above blaming the congressman for some speechwriting junior staffers transgression - but what if some speechwriting junior staffer simply recycled vitriol penned for his/her former boss?

Via Atrios, from the Elko (NV) Daily Free Press: "The speech delivered by U.S. Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., during Friday night's Lincoln Day Dinner in Elko was largely plagiarized from a copyrighted speech by Alabama State Auditor Beth Chapman."

Heaven forbid that two politicians should say the same thing. At the time of this posting, there were ten comments on this thread. Those comments included statements about the individual's intellect, classified his opinions as "insane hate-speech", referred to conservatives as "wingnuts" incapable of original thought, and even found a way to drag WMD into it. Yet I don't hear anyone addressing the points raised in the speech. This makes the Left look like all it can do is hurl invective, apply labels, and attack an individual's personal qualities. What makes you different from that which you're criticizing?

heard them before, or did you not understand that from the post. they have already been dismissed as "insane hate-speech".
What makes you different from that which you're criticizing?
nothing; either were with them or against them (W said), no middle ground, no straddling the fence, kid gloves removed, fire w/fire, get it. that's the way you (the right) wanted it right?

Well, at least Gibbons has admitted he was wrong and apologized. It's not much in the way of class, but it's light years beyond what most politicians would have done.

Anon: I think you may have missed the point. People are spewing a lot of "hate speech" as they criticize someone for doing the exact same thing. Seems to me if you're going to criticize, it helps your credibility not to exhibit the same behavior during your criticism.
