No matter what the film shows....the American public will see it as a movie, not reality. They'll walk out and board the same treadmill they've been on for more than four years now. Check out if you live in Treadmill, USA: TREADMILLE, USA

anon, What if what you see are brave American soldiers, proudly protecting and serving their country and the Iraqi people. Would that be propoganda to you? Would you call F9/11 propoganda?

While there can be little doubt that brave American soldiers are serving their country they can hardly be said to be protecting it, despite what the Bush lickers are peddling. No WMD's remember ! As to serving the Iraqi people that remains to be seen. The body count for U.S. just hit 1,500 which sucks but the Iraqi count is just insane. Of course once Mr Blair gets his election over it's on to Iran (George Junior won't spring it till April cuz he owes Tony).

Snodgrass - Read DAvid Kay's report to Congress. Read it all. Educate yourself. If that's possible,

Chris - Why are you taking students to see a movie? Has the movie been vetted by your school system? Have the parents of the children been consulted? I mean, don't both groups have the right to tell you to stay in the classroom and teach?

PPJ Statement date October 2, 2003 ? Perhaps while I'm educating myself you might like to keep up to date on current affairs !

PPJ For example linked text As to sly comments on the state of my education it's precisely that type of uninformed, knee jerk (emphasis on the Jerk here) reaction that has put our brave service folks in harms way for no good reason. By the way I'm guessing you just Googled 'No WMD' as your reference is the first thing it returns. Perhaps if you had read it yourself you might have less of a mouthfull of foot.

firstly i said: "i truly hope its not propaganda..." now lets see... prop·a·gan·da: 1. The systematic propagation of a doctrine or cause or of information reflecting the views and interests of those advocating such a doctrine or cause. 2. Material disseminated by the advocates or opponents of a doctrine or cause: wartime propaganda. to answer your original question, yes, that would be propaganda.

Snodgrass - Well, it is obvious you didn't read the Kay Report, so I guess you cannot be educated. BTW - To be educated you must understand certain basic facts, not just the latest theory that someone is selling. Again. Read the Kay Report. It will provide you with an excellent understanding of what Saddam was trying to do, and what he had done, to get back into the WMD business. And no one has refuted it. Or stay ignorant. Your choice.

If we are into the realms of whaling on countries for what they 'have done' I can think of one with a history of slavery, production and use of WMD, genocide against ethnic minorities etc. who would be a prime target. Starts with an 'A'. If we are into the realms of whaling on countries because of what they might do then let's just cut to killing kids cuz they might grow up to be killers. If we are into the realms of buying CIA justification for CIA f@@k ups then the lunatics have taken over the asylum indeed. Your obsession with my 'ignorance' is as touching as it is ill informed. I'm guessing you are a great hit at parties with such an instantly belligerent attitude. Of course I could speculate, on an equally uniformed basis, on your dubious parentage, genital deficiencies, substance abuse and sexual perversions but that would be unforgivably ignorant and presumptuous. So I won't.

Snodgrass - I can think of a couple of titles you missed. And your lack of information and asociated knowledge speaks for itself. Read Kay. Read some history. It'll make a better person of you.

Does the Kay Report justify invading another country? Would we have invaded Iraq knowing what we know now? Could we have justified the invasion without the WMD issues? Is Jim's talking point that "everybody thought there was WMD" true?

by Talkleft Visitor on Sat Mar 05, 2005 at 09:55:56 AM EST
Hmm.. Mayhap we have indeed been debating two sides of the same coin. Jim appears to be labouring the point that, at the time of the Kay Report it could have been taken as justification for hostilities.I, on the other hand, have been attempting to bring him, screaming and kicking, up to date on recent developments discrediting it's, marginally, biased conclusions. I am quite happy to concede that the point in time at which the obsevation is made colors the impression gained however we are living it the present, not the past. Certainly at the time I bought it to, but I'm all growed up now.

I think the underlying problem with the whole 'War On Terror' premise is that terrorists are not fighting for a state but against a state. McVeigh was not representing the U.S., Christianity or WASP's. He was just a nut with a bomb. Al Quaeda are no more representative of Iraq, Islam or Arabs, they are just nuts with bombs. As for 'State Sponsored Terrorism' of course terrorists will use resources if offered, they'd be crazy not to, but they will go it alone just as effectively. For, arguably misguided, fanatics whose motivation includes a view of the U.S as an imperialist, belligerent 'Great Satan' living down to their expectations is hardly likely to be a deterrent. Tragically the next hit is only a matter of time, as the Administration is always ready to warn us. It will be interesting to see if the international wave of support that followed 9/11 will be repeated or if the 'Team America, World Police' ethos has made the US an international pariah.
