Nightline Tonight Reports on Blogger Ethics

Nightline tonight will feature a report on ethics in the blogosphere. Part of the report was filmed at the Berkman Bloggers Meeting, and one of the attendees has already scooped Nightline by posting a videoblog of the meeting.

Only thing I ask from bloggers is disclosure. Let me know who pays you, if anyone. Post a list of the blog's benefactors, large and small. I don't want to read a blog that is an Armstrong Williams-like shill for the administration (thatis disgraceful) or a Kos like shill for Deaniacs. I don't deny that these bloggers have a right to say what they'd like, but its the credibility factor at issue. If they truly want to survive, they should disclose their benefactors. Talkleft, I am sorry, I know that means that you disclose people who contribute to your blog. And I am one who shall contribute in the near future. It, imo, is the only way of protectinng free speech while at the same time allowing one to weight the importance of the words based upon the amount given.

Demo - I think it is a wonderful idea. And, I would also urge us to pass laws that display the supporters of the non-profits in a clear and understandable manner. Transparency can never hurt anything.
