Jail Report

by TChris

Inmates serving time or awaiting trial or sentencing have enough problems without these:

  • A Union County, New Jersey jail guard has been charged with (among other crimes) sexually assaulting five female inmates while on duty.
  • The Perry County Detention Center in Hazard, Kentucky is in such a state of "total chaos" -- dirty, overcrowded, insufficient beds, nonfunctioning fire alarms, and inmates wandering about unsupervised -- that the state pulled 50 inmates out of the institution.

Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture may use its rural development fund, flush with an infusion of cash intended for disaster relief, to loan money to three Virginia counties to pay for a regional jail.

Although the need to replace the old jail was not the result of storm damage, rural development provides loans for recovery and growth.

Building jails is a poor way to promote "rural development." The Department of Agriculture should find a more productive use for its development loans.

I can hear it already... "What makes you think they deserve any better treatment".

    They are, after all, untermensch.

You want Union County, not Union City. In NJ, there's Union City (Hudson County) and Union County (which contains Union & Elizabeth). The guy is very clearly not from Union City.

Now let me see, what did bush say about iraq prisons? what was that about "problems of human and civil rights under saddam? and did someone say something about total chaos? and rape/terrorism? the murder of kids? the rape of woman?...oh thats only in other places, after all we must make the world into a place of freedom. did anyone really think this kind of thing was not happening in our little empire? but if you think that is bad check out the human rights people about our best friend in the world old Fox and his little government. the system will total fall apart within ten years, because the oil is running out soon, the overcrowded system of jails and prisons was planned a-long-time-ago. by the way were the 50 inmates put into some hole in the gound? because saddam did that alot. America the best third world country on earth.

Let's all buy $100 worth of bracelets and wear them so people know we care about prison overcrowding. Let's see....what colors haven't yet been chosen? Lime green? Lavender? Even if the overcrowding stays the same, all of you who buy bracelets will REALLY FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSELVES while attending graduate school. Heaven help us.

Best argument I've heard for shutting down the Department of Agriculture in quite some time.

Eclaire, why don't you unglue your nasty little typing fingers off your keyboard and stick them in a place I can't mention without offending TL's policy. Perhaps your custard filling has been a little overstuffed. For anyone who's wondering WTF Eclair is talking about, she/he's extremely offended that GregZ wants to help the people of Darfur (whom Eclair stated yesterday she/he doesn't give a F*** about) by spending $100 of his money (a large percentage as he's a grad student). buying lance armstrong bracelets to spread awareness of the crisis. GregZ, do you have bracelets that say Eclaire is an Ahole? Or maybe WWJD would serve the same purpose??

The Perry County Detention Center in Hazard, Kentucky is in such a state of "total chaos" Hazard? The land of Bo & Luke, Daisy, Boss Hogg and Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrain? Chaos indeed!

mfox, Perhaps you should join Greg and squander a significant portion of your savings on some bracelets. Then you too, will feel good about yourself. No wonder he's broke. Hey, let's lobby our congress to SPEND PUBLIC FUNDS on these bracelets. If spending Gregs 100 bucks is good, just think what could come of spending $100 million or better yet, $100 billion!! Gee the answer was right there in front of us all the time - PLASTIC BRACELETS.
