Anti-Drug Soldiers Busted For Drug Smuggling

by TChris

This is what happens when the United States sends troops to Columbia to help fight its unwinnable war on drugs:

Five American soldiers have been arrested for trying to smuggle hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of cocaine into the United States on a U.S. military aircraft, the U.S. military said. The five unidentified Army personnel were detained on Tuesday and are being held in the United States for "allegedly trying to transport approximately 16 kilograms (35 lb) of cocaine," U.S. Southern Command said in a news release late on Thursday.

This isn't the first time that the military's drug warriors have taken advantage of their easy access to drugs.

The wife of a U.S. Army officer who headed anti-drug operations in Colombia was sentenced to five years in prison in 2000 for trying to mail $700,000 worth of heroin to New York. Her husband admitted he knew she was laundering drug proceeds and was sentenced to five months, angering Colombian legal officials who complained this was too lenient.

Obviously, they didn't get the ONDCP message about using (and, a fortiori trafficking in) narcotics being equivalent to engaging in terrorism. Or, maybe, they are just terrorists.

All the girlfriends/wives of drug users/dealers who are doing 10-life for being dumb enough to get involved while their boyfriends pled out by turning in the higher targets should be thrilled at these new sentencing guidelines!!!

If I am correct, the war on drugs was began by Nixon. Don't you agree it's time to win by Legalizing it. Have we not learned from prohibition?

If drugs could talk they would have declared victory in this "war" years ago.

I used to have a buddy who flew hellicopters for the Texas National Gaurd for a while. They'd do the spotting for the big pot sweeps and then pick up samples to take back to the lab. He had pictures of his whole crew with huge dank buds hanging off of their flight gear. Every time they'd drop some away from the base where they'd go pick it up later.

Was she a colombian? civilian? she need life in a colombian prison. come to think of it if she is in prison in that part of the world 5 yrs, is life.

Because it would impact a huge part of our economy. In a military-industrial complex type nation, you have to be constantly fighting wars in order to continue churning out weapons. So, they throw a bone or two at the treatment crowd, and strafe villagers in colOmbia. P.S. mfox, we used to call them "bluedots", and yes, everything would talk after one of those ;)

Johnny - Weapons building is not good for the economy because, most of all, the only market is the governemnt. So please, do some studying on economics in general. et al - These people get involved with the drug traffic for the same reason kids in south central LA get involved. They make almost nothing. They see people making large sums of money.

Jim Jim Jim... How much money does the government pay into the economy, both locally and worldwide to purchase these weapons? they are not made by Santa Claus and his happy elves. They are made by Americans who are paid in dollars which they then spend on food and drink and cars which are made by other persons getting paid in dollars. The military-industrial complex is huge in this country Jim. Billions upon billions of dollars. It exists to serve itself, and it's collapse would be drastic. Ending the drug war would put a lot of people out of jobs. Jim, economics is easy-make a product, sell a product, pocket the difference between production cost and selling cost. If there was not huge money in the manufacturing of the machinery of war, no-one would be doing it.
