The Character Question

by TChris

By taking a reasonable position regarding stem cell research, Sen. Frist alienated the extremists he needs to support his presidential aspirations. As TalkLeft noted here, Frist hoped to bring them back into his fold by advocating the teaching of Intelligent Design in public schools. Frist's desire to placate the extremists may nonetheless be doomed to failure, given his inability to elicit a kind word from Trent Lott:

Asked Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press" whether Frist, who challenged and succeeded Lott as Senate majority leader in 2002, has the character to be president, Lott paused before answering.

"I think I'd have to think about that," said Lott, R-Miss.

(Why anyone thinks Lott is a fit person to be commenting on the subject of character is another question.)

Great article in the satiric website the Onion, Evangelical Scientists Refute Gravity With Intellligent Falling Theory (link found in Talking Points Memo). Despite "all their empirical observation and carefully compiled data" the "theory of gravity" is flawed. 'Nuff said.

"Why if only the South had done won the daNG civil war we wouldn't have anythang to worry about because we could be experimenting with slave stem cells right this minute, no problem." This deep thought brought to you directly from the mind of the Hon Senator Trent Lott.

Thanks to developments such as the biological bandage, there is some hope for those of us whose quality of life, both personal and professional, is impaired by disfiguring and painful disease and injury. Yet the fundamentalist right would shun us, and condemns us to lower standards of economic and personal opportunity, while preaching their purported idealistic concern for the most deprived members of society. Moreover, it would show the greatest support of our troops if we were to pursue this promising line of research, so that should they be fortunate enough to return home, but not so fortunate to return home unscathed, they might live more productive, healthier and happier lives. The conservative response that no one hears or sees the battle wounded dodges the issue. I am heartened by Dr. Frists support of stem cell research, and dismayed by those conservatives who seem determined to condemn those who might be helped to pain, suffering and privation.

intelligent design flies right in the face of sen. frist's medical training. it says, in effect, if we haven't figured it out by now, we can't, because it's just so darn complex. were that position taken right at the start, we'd still be living the life of nomadic wanderers, surviving only off what the land had freely to offer. when is harvard to rescind dr. frist's medical degree?

Lott Admits that he had frequent discussions with Bush about attacking Iraq -- before 9i1 (video) It's a Bushliar sandwich: "last resort" lies on the outside, and chewy, racist conspiracy to commit genocide for profit on the inside. KKK Oil, and their pals at Treasury Transfer Services.
