I saw Capote and I thought Philip Seymour Hoffman was brilliant in that role. I'm glad he won.

tho joaquim was quite good, psh was brilliant. being an age when i was able to have seen both truman capote and johnny cash on tv several times in my life, i have to say, that tho i thought phoenix did an admirable job capturing the man in black's integrity (and kudos for his singing work in the flick), i was able to see past the actor phillip seymour hoffman and believe it was actually young truman capote riding the rails to kansas to investigate the murder. he transcended the actor/character line to become the man. brilliant. glad reese won, tho, her thank you speech was very heartfelt. so was mafia three 6. jon stewart was weak, imo. but i thought he would be. out of his element. they needed steve martin again.

The Razzies was the real show tonight. Paris Hilton throwing monkey feces at the audience? It was great.

I thought Stewart did a good - not great - job, although he had his moments like his crack to Spielberg about Schindler's List-Munich, I can't wait to see what happens to us Jews next. In this farcockteh world, we Jews have gotta laugh at this stuff or we'll go as Meshuggah as the born agains. From what I've seen, you could quibble with some of the picks, but nobody got hosed. Everyone was deserving. Clooney gave a nice acceptance speech. Morgan Freeman is more Presidential than anyone since JFK. Certainly, a hell of a lot more than this clueless counterfeit.

We thought the Oscar show was the best in years! It was fun to watch, moved pretty fast (a bit too fast), Stewart was funny without being obnoxious most of the time, and the presenters and stars (including Clooney and the Crash director) did a nice job acknowledging their politics. Our teen viewers were disappointed that Brokeback didn't get more awards, but I liked the fact that Crash was attempting social commentary, as were most of the oscar nominees. My only complaint: when speakers got prematurely cut off. I saw the NAACP Image Awards last weekend, and their speakers had more time to speak from the heart. My local paper didn't like Stewart, which I hope does not indicate a trend.
