Soprano's Open Thread: Show 6

The Sopranos starts now. Tonight's episode: Live Free or Die, described as "Tony debates whether to give a top earner a second chance, and looks abroad to settle a local dispute." The dispute, of course, is the hit that Johnny S. got Tony to agree to do at his daughter's wedding last week. And we should find out about Vito's impending suicide after being outed as gay.

Actually the writers did. Tony's a dumbass, he likes that "Sanitorium" guy.

Come to think of it, not a dumbass, just a product of his culture.

Vito has a good eye for antiques. I dunno, I didn't think the leather types would be the antique lovers. Or am I just showing my ignorance? Or are they going to include every gay cliche there is? This should be interesting.

It's not unusual to find leather guys who like antiques. It's not really clear what Vito will do and the previews suggest that the story arc may jump on to other things next week, so the ambiguity continues. Recall the love shown for people like Jimmy Hoffa for the GOP. Yes, there are Traficantes (and more contemporary types like Capri Cafaro), but still why be surprised that Tony and Carmela like the Pubbies? They live in an authoritarian world.

Well, I don't believe it had anything to do with the tax cuts, since so much of the Sopranos' income is, (how shall I put it) untaxable. I guess she's just a family values voter, which is ironic on so many levels.....

Sure. Phony family values. Bogus tough on crime crapolla. She's got all the bases covered. She's singin' from the same hypocrite's hymnal that the usual suspects in Congress, on the tube and around here are singin' from.

I'm not surprised Tony is taking a liberal stance on the Vito situation. Remember, it was thought seeing a shrink would get you whacked. I think Tony relates to Vito on some level, they both have their inner demons. It's gonna be a tough save for him though, the rest of the crew seems hellbent on making Vito disappear.

Not surprised Carmela voted Bush either. One crime family supporting another:)

Meadow was just like most liberals as well. All high and mighty because here education and family money comes from the suffering of others. I loved the boyfreind calling her on it. Right back at ya kdog :)

As far as the episode is concerend I enjoyed the session between Tony and the shrink and the scene in the sandwich shop where the boyfriend signs Vito's death warrant. I don't see the boyfreind taking much more of this. He goes from being afraid for his own life to being afraid that he might be responsible for the death of someone else. This is like a horror movie where you keep asking yourself...Why do they keep going into the house? How many signs does this guy need that he needs a new girlfreind?

Touche Slado...touche. Meadow does seem well on her way to being the next Ron Kuby. She has come to hate the FBI as much as those actively "in the business". I felt bad for her at the one internship, where the lady says under her breath "Tony Soprano's kid". Once again, like Johnny's daughter last week, you can't pick your parents. Not to mention what Vito's kids are in for.

Or are they going to include every gay cliche there is? This should be interesting If Vito starts singing Judy Garland songs, I'm going to stop watching.

Possible solution...Tony exiles Vito to San Francisco or Miami to expand the family's influence into rackets in the gay community.

Kdog, that's why I'm hear. Yes Meadow is quite a paradox. What I didn't catch was is she working to defend a corporate criminal or prosecute one? Either way it seems a stange coincidince and each offer their own set of ironies. As for the gay sterotypes I thought the new hampshier village was a little over the top. "Live free or Die!". But maybe people think us conservatives wont' "get it" if they don't lay it on thick. Also I doubt if every single person in New Hampshier is so nice. Seemed a little Truman Show to me.

Saw the re-run Slado, Meadow was working with a private defense firm on the white collar case. She mentioned the injustice of letting a man accused of an 80 million dollar fraud out on bail awaiting trial while Johnny Sac was being imprisoned while awaiting trial.
