Stupid Criminal of the Week

by TChris

You'd think a deputy sheriff would know better than to accept a dare like this one:

According to a criminal complaint, a woman sitting at a table with Ringhofer at the party said Ringhofer exposed himself after she dared him in jest.

Deputy Ringhofer has been charged with sexual misconduct and indecent exposure for accepting the dare at a birthday party held in a bar.

Sounds like innocent fun to me....I mean don't dare somebody to whip out their junk and then file a complaint when they do...sounds like entrapment.

If he was double-dog-dared, does it count as coercion?

You know what really a bummer about this? I don't know the law in his state, but in some states he could be labeled a sex offender. Imagine the poor guy having to go to all his neighbors and having to tell them he was a sex offender because he whipped it out in a bar? I wonder who in the world reported him and why anyone was stupid enough to arrest him. This poor guy is no criminal unless you just think he's criminally stupid.

Chances are he was busted either because he was a pain for the chief/sheriff, or because some local made a lot of noise. Anyone know when the sheriff's up for election there? And, in most states, the type of charge makes him a sex offender, stigmatized for life.

Sorry TChris, I think this counts as the stupid prosecution of the week. If I say 'I dare you to flash you titz' I shouldn't be offended if you do. And this story is small potatos ... which could explain her complaint;-)

I heard he was released for lack of evidence. Sorry... It had to be said.

And let's keep in mind that (at least in theory) there wasn't anybody present under the age of 21.

If convicted, will the deputy have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, with his picture and address online?

Exhibit A for the case to oppose sex offender lists and such.
