Action Alert: Target George Mitchell -- Nicely

Via Think Progress:

Over 50,000 ThinkProgress readers have written ABC in the last 48 hours about "The Path to 9/11." We're going to keep the pressure on ABC, but we're also broadening our focus today to the Walt Disney Company, which owns ABC.

Disney's Chairman of the Board is former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell (D-ME). Senator Mitchell has a long and distinguished career both inside and outside government and he knows how important it is to accurately represent historical events.

We need to remind him that 9/11 was a national tragedy, and that politicizing and flagrantly misrepresenting the facts about 9/11 is wrong.

ABC is feeling the pressure. Let's keep it up.

  • Senator, With all due respect I would like to call upon your sense of fairness and truth to ensure that the scheduled 9/11 Disney "Docudrama" present accurate and unbiased information. I have been a dedicated ABC News viewer for all of my adult life. I have been a frequent visitor to Disney entertainment properties with my family as well. I hope that the values that I have recognized in the Disney organization will prevail and the apparent/anticipated bias and the absolute lack of fact based substance in the 9/11 program will be corrected. As a consumer I hope that you recognize the mutual relationship between consumer and supplier that exists in commerce. I also want to remind you that the public is the owner of the "airwaves". I would like you to know that if Disney lets me and my family down in this situation ... my brand affinity and loyalty with ABC and Disney will be severely damaged if not destroyed. I have my pocket book to vote against a Disney that fails to serve its consituents. I hope that I will be in a position to continue thinking of Disney fairly - you have a powerful role and an incredible responsibility to command truth, fairness, and accuracy. The current administration is a bad "fairy tale". Providing rationalization to their agenda is a very unwise and shortlived strategy. Being perceived as a complicit co-conspirator to the the Bush untruths will be unforgivable. Please use your influence and sense of patriotism to preempt what may be one of the worst mistakes that the Disney Organization may make in its otherwise brilliant history. Sincerely, J.H. Frey
