Your Liberal Media

Digby:

It's worth noting that the last time the House turned over, in 1994, Tom Delay beat Newt Gingrich's handpicked choice for majority leader and somehow the whole town didn't interpret that as Newtie's waterloo.

Newt Time's Man of the Year

. . . There are no honeymoons for Democrats. Remember that. And "moral authority" is about haircuts and Hollywood, not torture and illegal wars. It is not merely a fight against the Republicans or a fight over politics and policy. It is a non-stop battle with the press to cover events with seriousness and responsiblity. For some reason, when Democrats are in power the press corps immediately goes from being merely shallow to insufferable, sophomoric [jerks].

The 2006 election was nine days ago and this is what CNN had on their screen today:

Pelosi Damaged Goods?

These are Clinton rules, folks. Get used to it.

I think Deconstructionist is having a bad day.  But enough about him.
The "liberal press" did indeed enjoy reporting on disharmony in the ranks of democratic leadership. One can only suppose that they created this hype as a result of their having lost sight of what a fair election and ardent discussion really is.  At the same time, the "liberal press" is treating Trent Lotts election as minority whip as the feel-good comeback story of the year.  Heaven help us!

Some Repubs I know are arguing that the "liberal" press is happy because they know Lott's comeback will hurt the Repub in 2008.

Big Tent - Actually I have always understood that the complaints of bias reflect the views of the complainer. Thus the Repubs complained continually about Clinton's good press, and were to a large degree correct. But seeing that Clinton was of the age of the media, worked them beautifully, what else did the Repubs expect?

Now, if you want to look at some examples of bias, consider  this picture from SF. It is deceptive in the extreme.

And you can get a full look at good leaks vs bad leaks  here

And you can see some of who is paying who here.

And  a look at how the press let's its bias blind itself to people.

And  the latest outrage by CNN being the publisher for the terrorist propaganda.

I could go on, but I think I have made my point.

And if you are outraged by the mild headline questioning Pelosi's future, I wonder what you be saying if you were a Repub.

This is just the standard rethug trick... (none / 0) (#11)

...of trying to label and define the opposition in a thinly-veiled attempt to plant false ideas in the media.

Unfortunately, with the terrible newspapers we have today and "news" networks playing stenographer for the rethugs they often succeed.

Apparently the electorate saw through their BS about the horror of a "San Francisco liberal" which hopefully indicates that the stats are true: the vast majority of Americans believe that bush is dishonest, that he hides things damaging to his maladministration, and that they trust Democrats more than bush and the rethug guard to correct what ails the country.

You can't fool all the people all the time.
