No Injuries in Rocket Attack on U.S. Embassy in Athens

A rocket hit the U.S. Embassy in Greece. Shorter version: There were no injuries. It landed in the toilet.

Sounds like a home grown operation to me.

It sounds to me like an outsourced operation, quick money and hasty planning.

    Look at the timing.

Bush blows big unitary speech, setting up confrontation with Congress.

One day later, poorly planned attempt to smudge embassy seal?  By "leftest terror" group?  Who just happened to get a hold of an RPG?

Sounds more like drunken frat boys or something cooked up without Rumsfield.

He was, understandably, concerned and very glad no one got hurt. He said it happened pretty early in the AM and few people were in the embassy at that time. Said they shot it right in the front of the building above the front door. Apparently it was a pretty big blast as windows were broken in neighboring buildings. He didn't mention the toilet...

    From the BBC:

Revolutionary Struggle, the left-wing guerrilla group which claims to have fired the Russian-made rocket, is continuing the tradition of its predecessor November 17, of attacking targets which have - in its view - populist appeal.

Apply the usual caveat that sometimes groups claim credit for others' work.

Aw gee Bill, I'm sorry for calling those Iranians we picked up yesterday in Iraq "trerrorists." Let's change that to most asuredly enablers and most likely terrorists.

There now. That make you feel better? Wouldn't want to any Iranian feelings, would we?

And yep, looks like we gave the kid some meds and sent him back. Now. The question was, if you'd like to stick to facts rather than making things up, did he appear mentally impaired to his superiors.

Which of course was the question. I posit he didn't. You will, of course, claim that he did because it makes the military look back.

In the meantime, keep joking about rocket attacks on an Embassy.

by Bill Arnett on Fri Jan 12, 2007 at 02:56:08 PM EST
me, jim, 'cause you obviously are out of ammo and I don't engage the unarmed in even verbal contests.

"Gave the kid [singular, in context] some meds and sent him back?"

No, Jim, we sent THOUSANDS of soldiers either exhibiting or beginning to exhibit symptoms of mental illness back into combat, and that is the conclusions of people far smarter than you and me (did you even LOOK at the lengthy citations given, or are you once again indulging in rank speculation?). They cite figures that say 14% of all Army troops and 28% of Marines having served in Iraq have been involved in the death of a noncombatant, and that is one of the consequences of sending untreated soldiers exhibiting signs of mental illness back into combat.

Use "the google" and enter "mentally ill soldiers returned to combat" and you will see how pathetic is your attempt to whitewash the issue with "we gave the kid some meds and sent him back" truly is.

I SUPPORT OUR TROOPS by wanting this folly to stop, bring the troops home, and put an end to this entirely bogus concept of a "war on Terror" that can't be won anymore than the previous "War on Drugs" and "Warm on Poverty".

The w.o.t. is a construct of evil men seeking world domination and American hegemony and, yes, I despise having our troops fighting and dying for OIL, which is all this war is about.

And it's not ME making the military look ba[d], bush/cheney and the neocons breaking our forces' backs are doing a more than adequate job of doing that and that is NO FAULT OF OUR TROOPS who are being egregiously misused.

An all new low for you, Jim, but good luck to you in the future.

Bill, you are very good at making claims and not providing links. If you want to do that, go ahead.

But you're not gonna score any points without doing so.

I repeat my comment. They gave the kid some meds and sent him back. That doesn't say that his actions would tell anyone that he was psychotic, or that his superiors knew that he was.

You claim to have a great deal of knowledge about the military. If you do, you know that no one wants to have a mentally ill person in his flight crew or in his fire team. People like that get you killed.

Your failure to know and understand that gives me great pause when evaluating your many claims.
