Obama Tells Kids He Was a "Goof-Off", Tried Drugs & Alcohol

Good for Obama. He's not running from his early experimentation with drugs, including cocaine, and alcohol. He also says he was a "goof-off."

We've come a long way from the "But I didn't inhale" days.

    Obama, ganja and girls (5.00 / 1) (#3)

Obama was into the ganj' and the girls in his youth, I knew I was right about this guy.  :)

    Obama 08, Keepin' it real.

    For Democrats anyway.

We've had a dry drunk ex-coke head in office for the last 7 years.

So I think that road's been paved.

    The Obama I Like (none / 0) (#2)

    More like this, please.

I know, I know: Karl Rove is going to write in Newsweek now that "if the Republicans were smart, they'd attack Obama for telling kids that you can smoke crack all the way to the White House," and then Karl's "controversial" statements will be the topic in the Situation Room for three days straight, because they're "out there." And then Bob Novak will claim that his sources on Obama's staff are outraged because Hillary's staff is boasting in private that they actually wrote the smear and handed it to Karl. And then the circle will begin anew all over the "liberal media".

So what? F*ck them all. Nobody cares what Wolf or Tim or anyone in the Village thinks. Our country has been run by a man incapable of normal human behavior for far too long now. An actual honest politician is only vulnerable in the "game" they play at the Beltway debates.

And yet I keep hearing Obama lapse into stentorian, focus-grouped Beltway kabuki and non sequiturs, and it's really disheartening. Like when Ron Gravel stood up to that loaded question about Vietnam and had the stones to say what everyone's known for decades, even though the Beltway answer was supposed to be "no". Obama, admittedly, was given the real hot potato, but hell - Saddam's dead, we checked for WMDs and came up empty handed, and Osama's not there - can anyone explain why anyone still needs to die? And he didn't, you'll notice. They're not dying in vain. But nobody can say why the hell they are dying. That doesn't sit well with me.

I'm all in favor of legalizing narcotics, but I'm not sure that his implicit message - "I came out ok, so will you" is one most parents would approve of.  Certainly I don't.

message actually was, "I turned out really well because I quit being a goof-off and doing drugs and began to apply myself."

    I admire his honesty! (none / 0) (#6)

In our society we expect that our upper social strata have not "lowered their standards" to make the same mistakes that those in the lower to middle class social classes have made.  When we learn of their "behavior" via the media we appear to be shocked. Why? They are no different than anyone else, except for the fact that they have more money.  However, most votes come from the lower to middle class and is was a smart move on Obama's part to make his "experiences" publicly known and send a positive message to the younger generation that no one is perfect, we all make mistakes and don't let those mistakes take charge of your life. You have to take charge of your life.  Don't follow your dreams, chase them!!   I admire him for his honesty.  That's more than I can say for our past President's or future electees.

The electorate prefers Hilary's honesty. They're not ready for Obama's in-your-face honesty. They're still supporting the mud slinging consciousness as the poll numbers show.

All they do is make me hungry for takeout from the Global Village

And how could any rival use this against him, considering the "role model" we have in the WH now?

You know, the Moral Values paragon who used his own and daddy's influence to sweep every mess he made his entire life under the carpet, and to shriek back any unburied POS up to age fifty as "youthful indiscretions".

Math alert: Repug males can be categorized as youthfully indiscreet up to and beyond the estimated age of common dirt.

But non-white males and all females are to be held evermore responsible, as adults, for any life mistakes committed starting from age six and up. (This is the same crowd that put children away in Gitmo without representation and turned away human rights monitoring.)

I'd explain how this double standard is even possible but I don't have the IOKIYAR Math Workbook or Big Book of Hooey Tall Tales and Reference Guide. I'm also not a psycho.

    "not inhaling" (none / 0) (#8)
by dakine01 on Tue Nov 20, 2007 at 05:29:31 PM EST
If I may, I would like to offer this small defense of Mr Clinton and his "did not inhale" statement, over which he receives mass amounts of grief.

Inhaling is a learned response.  People do NOT inhale the first or second or third times they place ANY lighted stick, whether cigarette, cigar or joint, to their mouths.

From all indications Mr Clinton was one of those (Boy's State/Boy's Nation) types who did not do such things to avoid being tabbed as a trouble maker from an early age.  I very much doubt if he knows how to inhale to this day.

I also understand that I am very much a minority in this view.

I knew plenty of people who just puffed because they were torn between goody-two-shoes and being "cool." On the other hand, I inhaled deeply the first time and had never even smoked a cigarette before. I also coughed up half my lung mucus and had tears running for thirty minutes.
