Happy Thanksgiving and Open Thread

TalkLeft wishes all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving.

If you're around at noon (Mountain Time) KBCO FM Boulder plays the long version of Alice's Restaurant. They replay it at 6 pm. You can listen live online here.

Or, you can enjoy it anytime here, story included.

It's a movement, "The Alice's Restaurant Let's Give Thanks and Remember Why We Started Doing This and Why We Keep On Keepin' On Movement." Religious Studies Professor Ira Chernus at the University of Colorado at Boulder explains why.

It's never too late to rehabilitate yourself, to start creating enough of a nuisance and sing loud enough to end war and stuff. If you've been doing it for 25 years, or more, I bet you are prepared to do it for another 25 years or more. I bet you're not proud, or tired.

Unfortunately, though, the world will keep doing all kinds of mean, nasty, ugly things, at least for a while. And we'll all be just having a tough time here, on this road of activism. It may be a good idea to remember the comfort and rejuvenation we can get from an old familiar ritual now and then. So don't forget to sing along when it comes around on the guitar.

Because it is, indeed, a movement: The Alice's Restaurant Let's Give Thanks and Remember Why We Started Doing This and Why We Keep On Keepin' On Movement.

Things I think are worth being thankful for.
The world gets more interesting every year.

There are way more smart people than dumb people.

There are way more caring people than uncaring people.

There are way more curious people than incurious people.

There are way more honest people than dishonest people.

There are way more liberal people than not liberal people.

There are way more good people in the world than not.

There are way more good things happening in the world than not.

There are way more people noticing these things than not.

And there are some pretty damn good blogs out there.

There are mountains to climb and rivers to cross and trees to take shade under and..... you can only see the stars in the dark!

And there is always music. And there always will be music.

    Happy Thanksgiving Jeralyn! (none / 0) (#3)

Thank you, Jeralyn.  I love your site and am nourished by it daily.  I have much to be grateful for in this life, in spite of all of the "evil"that exists.  There is also much love and community among bloggers and readers.  Happy Thanksgiving.

mmmmmm. That is something to try, a turkey with chocolate icing. Next time try a glaze of cranberry raspberry under the chocolate icing, A futurist Sacher Turkey.

cast and crew! though sometimes you make my head hurt, it's in a good way. i just need to lubricate those brain gears more often.

i did my annual "alice's restaurant" listening whilst driving south on rt. 29, towards my sister-in-law's house in bedford, va. i appreciate it more and more every year!

ironically, bedford, va is also home to the national d-day memorial. i really think those guys would get a kick out of the song too.

A thanks to those who thought they were doing their duty. But disappointment in the Dems who have done nothing for a year about it.

    Larisa at-Largely reports:
Well, apparently (and again) we find out that the majority of the "terrorists" we are fighting "over there" are actually a our own allies, or as the terrorists call themselves, Our Allies in Iraq (OAI):
"Saudi Arabia and Libya, both considered allies by the United States in its fight against terrorism, were the source of about 60 percent of the foreign fighters who came to Iraq in the past year to serve as suicide bombers or to facilitate other attacks, according to senior American military officials.

The data come largely from a trove of documents and computers discovered in September, when American forces raided a tent camp in the desert near Sinjar, close to the Syrian border. The raid's target was an insurgent cell believed to be responsible for smuggling the vast majority of foreign fighters into Iraq.

The most significant discovery was a collection of biographical sketches that listed hometowns and other details for more than 700 fighters brought into Iraq since August 2006."

Ah, the House of Saud, with an ally such as this, who needs any enemies? They are, after all, our number one arms client, and so what if they dabble in murdering Americans, when multi-billion dollar contracts are on the table (where apparently impeachment [and Iraq occupation defunding] is not).
    (italicized addition mine)

You've gotta feel for George Bush. Not enough people are buying his WOT fantasy, so as with any other BS product, he simply creates the problem to help him sell his solution.

And lives? Big deal. Lot's more where they came from...

    Thanks a lot, George.

    Happy Thanksgiving, Nancy.
