Life After Gangs? Unions Embrace Former Members

The LA Times has an article today about how the unions in Los Angeles are accepting former gang members who have done prison time.

There's life after gangs. All they need is a chance. Kudos to the unions for providing it.

Would you like your child alone on a bus with a convicted child molester?

The article and Thread was about former gang members, not child molesters.

these aren't ex-con members of NAMBLA, they are former Bloods and Crips.

I'd have no problem with a former gang-member driving my kid to school.

Besides, I don't think the school bus driver's past is any of my business, just how he performs the job is what would concern me.

It seems awfully wasteful to dedicate a bus to hauling one kid around. What happened to all the others?

I guess they were all killed by the last bus driver...

I've known a few guys who have been released after doing 5-10 years in the pen. The ones who got good jobs in good companies are still out - going on over 10 years now. Theyre still working for the studios and the L.A. Times.
