Joe Klein Argues Against Sentencing Guidelines For Libby

Well, not really. I don't think Klein even knows the sentencing guidelines exist. But he did write this:

Surely, there are cases of perjury where jail is an appropriate penalty--cases where the perjurer let an actual criminal off the hook. . . . If it could have been proven that Libby had knowingly blown the cover of a covert operative, I'd be in favor of hanging by his thumbs. But Fitzgerald was unable to make that case. . . .

Ummm, Joe your beef is with the application of the Sentencing Guidelines and the cross-referencing used when obstruction of justice is involved. And no, I didn't know about this, until I read about it at TalkLeft. Maybe a big time journalist like Klein could talk to somebody that knows about the subject . . . before he spouts.

This is a very serious matter, and our administration takes it seriously.
    [...]
And, therefore, we will cooperate fully with the Justice Department. I've got all the confidence in the world the Justice Department will do a good, thorough job. And that's exactly what I want them to do, is a good, thorough job. I'd like to know who leaked, and if anybody has got any information inside our government or outside our government who leaked, you ought to take it to the Justice Department so we can find out the leaker.

I have told my staff, I want full cooperation with the Justice Department. And when they ask for information, we expect the information to be delivered on a timely basis. I expect it to be delivered on a timely basis. I want there to be full participation, because, April, I am most interested in finding out the truth.

And, you know, there's a lot of leaking in Washington, D.C. It's a town famous for it. And if this helps stop leaks of -- this investigation in finding the truth, it will not only hold someone to account who should not have leaked -- and this is a serious charge, by the way. We're talking about a criminal action, but also hopefully will help set a clear signal we expect other leaks to stop, as well. And so I look forward to finding the truth.

is obviously more interested in stopping damaging leaks and covering up information about illegal actions by himself and/or people in his administration than he is about bringing to justice real criminals.

    Sorry to state the obvious...

The case did go to a special prosecutor, who apparently could not find a "leaker" since he indicted no one for that crime.

    And Libby was convicted (5.00 / 1) (#6)

of perjury, lying to the FBI in the course of an investigation, and obstruction of justice - which blocked the investigation and is the reason the special prosecutor could not find a "leaker" and that no one was indicted for outing a covert CIA agent even though someone in the Bush administration is obviously guilty of doing just that - probably Dick Cheney.

    But you knew all that.

Huh?? Couldn't find one??? Everybody in DC was talking about Mrs. Wilson. What he couldn't do was prove that Armitage, or anyone else, committed a crime in doing so.

Hmmmm, you and edger are always so up on telling people to check under their beds, calling them bedwetters, blocking closet doors...

Is their something about your childhood you need to talk about??

Nothing to do with my childhood. Just pointing out that you are hallucinating again, Often early to mid-stage dementia has other symptoms as well. Which may explain many of your comments.

    Armitage told Novak and Woodward.

    Grossman told Libby.

Bill Harlow (CIA) told Cathie Martin.

    Cathie Martin told Libby.

A senior CIA person told Libby.

    Rove told Novak.

Miller claims she was told by Libby. Libby denies.

Russert claims Libby told him and says all the reporters know. Libby denies saying that.

Pincus (WaPo) says Fleischer told him. Flesicher denies.

Miller makes second claim. Libby denies.

Cooper claims Libby told him. Libby denies.

Looks like Fitzgerald could have found at least one leaker to prosecute if she actually was covert...

It is a profession/hobby that suits you.  You do not have a mind for law. Subtleties always seem to elude you and you have no memory for detail. You are best at repeating and repeating talking points whether or not they have been refuted or whether or not they are true.

Rove would be proud even if you are just a fledgling foot soldier in the GOP propaganda war against truth.

"Actual criminal?" What does he propose Libby is, the Good Witch of the West? Maybe he's talking about poor and/or brown people.
