Bruce Goes Political on Today Show

Via rjmac at daily kos, Bruce [Springsteen, for those not in the know] goes political, early, because it's late for our country:

This is a song called Livin' In the Future. But it's really about what's happening now. Right now. It's kind of about how the things we love about America, cheeseburgers, French fries, the Yankees battlin' Boston... the Bill of Rights [holds up microphone, urging crowd to cheer] ... v-twin motorcycles... Tim Russert's haircut, trans-fats and the Jersey Shore... we love those things the way womenfolk love Matt Lauer.

But over the past six years we've had to add to the American picture: rendition, illegal wiretapping, voter suppression, no habeus corpus, the neglect of that great city New Orleans and its people, an attack on the Constitution. And the loss of our best men and women in a tragic war.

This is a song about things that shouldn't happen here happening here.

So right now we plan to do something about it, we plan to sing about it. I know it's early, but it's late. So come and join us.

You can watch it here.

the cult of the celebrity.  I prefer to get my celebrity news from The Superficial.  By far the best, and most humorous.

    the cult of the celebrity

See: Reagan, Ronald, an empty suit who could read a teleprompter, but who didn't know that he had authorized Iran-Contra and should have been impeached, so Republicans forgave him.

See: Thompson, Fred, an empty suit who can read a teleprompter, but apparently knows nothing that isn't on it.

See: John Wayne (born Marion Morrison), revered by the right as some sort of American hero, even though he never came close to actual combat, and only PORTRAYED brave soldiers, while living a life of ease and partying in Hollywood.  (Do you BELIEVE that there is a statue of John Wayne in front of the Orange County Airport, and that at one time a portrait of him in character as Davy Crockett hung in the Alamo?)

See: the mocking of all liberal celebrities as know-nothings, even when they articulate positions clearly and know what they are talking about.

    People forget history...

FDR, the great president, the greatest Democratic/Progressive president, suspended habeus corpus, forced 120,000 men, women and children into internment camps taking away their freedom and property, was unprepared for Pearl Harbor after the oil embargo on Japan, tried to pack the supreme court (against checks and balances), as well as spied on american citizens in numbers much larger than this administration...And somehow we survived, got better, and moved forward.

Did FDR have any other Positive accomplishments? (none / 0) (#8)

apparently, he hasn't paid much attention to messrs. russert or lauer lately, or is he lumping them in with trans fats; things you know are bad for you, but you feel compelled to do them anyway?

russert seems to have fixated on john edward's haircuts. pretty funny for a multi-millionaire to be so wrapped up in a $400 haircut.
