"When History Hesitated . . ."

A Collossus strode forth:

And held a press conference.

This is some funny stuff.

    ad that didn't say "9/11."

Instead, it talked about the "dolor de aquel 11 de septiembre."

when he decides he needs to bullsh*t some Hispanic voters into voting for him.  Just like he's doing with the guns 'n' huntin' crowd, profiled in this article:

Meet Rudolph the Redneck Vote-Hunter *

YULEE, Fla. -- Rudy Giuliani's black SUV stirred up a cloud of dust as it raced along the twisting dirt roads to the hunting lodge at the Wild Creek Safari Club.

This is not the Florida pictured in travel brochures. The hunting lodge sits a few hundred yards from the border of Georgia, and the churchgoing people who come here speak with thick Southern accents you'd never hear in Miami.

For Giuliani, it is not a natural fit. But he's come here because Florida is now the only hope he has to rescue a campaign that seems to be slipping from his grasp.

    * * *

And yet, despite campaigning here for weeks and spending most of his money here, Rudy is losing ground. In the last month, polls have shown him losing his lead in Florida as independent voters have shifted toward Sen. John McCain.

Which explains why Rudy, in a region of Florida where kids learn to hunt before they learn to drive, was pretending to be a friend of the National Rifle Association.

Pause here for a reality check. This is a guy who supported every gun control idea when he was mayor. Federal testing and licensing for all gun owners. The Brady Bill. A ban on assault weapons. He even filed a pioneering lawsuit against gun manufacturers in an attempt to limit the supply of new weapons rolling off their factory floors.

The remarkable thing is that he seemed to have this crowd in his grasp. At every stop in a recent trek across Florida's Panhandle, people said Rudy is a personal hero to them for showing such steady nerve after the 9/11 attacks. Everyone knows about his remarkable success in New York, whether fighting street violence or evicting the pornographers from Times Square.

The fact is, wingnuts and Republicans seem to like nothing more than some blatant lying to them.  I suppose it goes along with the self-delusion they practice about their compassion, religiousity, probity or whatever they're proud of, just so long as it keeps them cosseted from the results of their ideology.

I'd been looking (literally for months) for a holiday-themed nickname for Rudy, to complement using "Rudy Cue Ball" for the other 11 months of the year and exploit the obvious "red-nosed reindeer" connection in his name.

Of course, in NYC, calling someone a "redneck" is not a good thing.  It's a scary thing.

This columnist's creativity, it seems, has beaten mine.  I bow in his honor.

and have for 20 years now.  They can't stand Rudy.

He's toast.  He's not going to win Florida and will be back in the private sector after 2/5.

    for the private sector:)

Actually, I would take a little perverse pleasure in having him hang around long enough for the NY primary and get beat by Ron Paul in his home state.

The Florida Gambit is an interesting question...what if it works?  It's almost like Colbert campaigning only in South Carolina.  I agree, I think he'll lose in FLA and then he'll be done.  Points for creativity, though.

How does he sit in the latest florida polls? (none / 0) (#11)
