Transparency And The Clintons

Joe Conason brings some sense and facts to the discussion:

The concerns about the Clinton Global Initiative and Bill Clinton’s other activities seem slightly overblown (as I’ve noted before). Every paid speech he has delivered over the past eight years is recorded in his wife’s Senate disclosure forms. Nor have donors to CGI been concealed, either, as any journalist who attends its meetings or examines its Web site should be able to determine. The countries that have donated funding to the Clinton H.I.V./AIDS Initiative are also a matter of public record.

When such questions arose during the campaign, he promised to publish the names of all future donors if his wife were to be elected president – and presumably he will now make any reasonable disclosures requested by the president-elect as part of the vetting process.

Next phony issue? We await Josh Marshall's next anti-Clinton missive.

Work on your golf game, take up whittling or basket-weaving, attend a lot of sporting events, develop a taste for non-controversial art, spend time with your grandchildren, or just stay home and watch TV.  Just don't attempt to use the skills, contacts, and resources you picked up in office to serve the good of the nation or the world -- you're done with all that jazz!   I'm sure we can count on the Current Occupant to show Bill the right way for an ex-president to behave.

Dkos main diarist, Scout Finch, did his best to imply evil intentions from an innocuous quote:

As Bill Clinton notes, Hillary worked hard for Obama after the primary and would be a great Secretary of State. But, he also sneaks in a comment about how hard he worked... apparently angling for his own reward. It would seem the only thing standing between Hillary Clinton and Secretary of State is... Bill Clinton.

    The offending original quote?

Speaking at an economic conference in Kuwait, Mr. Clinton openly acknowledged the possibility. "If he decided to ask her and they did it together, I think she'll be really great as a secretary of state," he said."She worked very hard for his election after the primary fight with him, and so did I, and we were very glad that he won."

Bill Clinton worked hard to elect Obama.  How evil of him!!!  (snark)

almost every source, except Politico, has made this vetting process seem practically like a breeze.  All of this prejudice about the Clintons just flies in the face of fact.

    Just really, really weird.

The book is called "The Hunting of the President" by Gene Lyons and Joe Conason. I again urge everyone to read this book, or rent the DVD. It is a well researched and documented, eye opening look into how political propaganda and media manipulation works. I just recently say the Frontline program "Boogie Man" about Lee Atwater's influence and it reinforces what this book says. There are a couple of great bits about how people like Tom Brokaw were bamboozled into repeating Republican spin. (It didn't take much.)I still get shocked by how easily our highly regarded media bigwigs are manipulated. Slow learner, I guess.

more news from the internet, maybe even a new internet news 'network' program that could compete with the major news networks...

but how long would it be before that stuff is 'persuaded' or corrupted...probably not long if history of human morals is any guidline...

as Conason wrote "Whatever the former president has done to raise funds from his billionaire friends -- and he appears to have done nothing unethical at all -- there is not a shred of evidence that he relied upon any influence wielded in the Senate by his wife. Indeed, her policy stance toward the foundation's friends in places like Dubai and Kazakhstan is critical and unyielding."
