DNCC Chooses First Group of Credentialed Bloggers

The Democratic National Convention Committee, through DNC Chair Howard Dean, has announced the selection of credentialed blogs for the "50 state blogger corps" for the Democratic Convention. They include one blog from each of the 50 states. To be eligible, the blog must concentrate on the politics of its state. National blogs and video and niche bloggers will be selected at a later date.

Congratulations to Colorado's Square State Blog for being selected as the credentialed state blog for Colorado.

For the first time, state bloggers will be seated on the convention floor with their state's delegates.

Aaron Silverstein at Square State has this interview with Chair Howard Dean about the credentialing of bloggers.

    Not really a pattern - these seem (5.00 / 1) (#3)

to be pretty tried-and-true blogs we've all heard of before from their yeoman work the last couple years.  Places like:
Calitics (CA - all things California),
My Left Nutmeg (CT - inter alia, breaking Lieberman's chops left, right and center),
HorsesA*s.org (WA - among other things broke the story about "'Heckuva Job' Brownie" at FEMA during Katrina),
    43rdState Blues (ID - a strong voice in a hostile-to-Dems environment),
Left in the West (MT - one of the moving forces which helped elect Sen. Jon Tester),
    Blue Hampshire (NH),
    Raising Kaine (VA),
    Burnt Orange Report (TX).

These folks have earned their stripes as solid Dem voices.  I'm sure the others have too - I'm just not familiar with them.

    I was thinking of Ohio. I don't live there (none / 0) (#6)

but I was a huge fan of Pounder at DK and I think he has an Ohio blog now.  But I don't know the name of it.

has been around for a few years.  They have been excellent at covering Governor Blunt's blunders, MO Republicans push on voter fraud to pass photo voter ID laws and the now defunct "American Center for Voting Rights" led by Missouri attorney Thor Hearne who led the push for photo voter ID laws on a national level.

which state bloggers were selected?  Such as, which Dem. primary candidate the blogger favors on the blog?

... I checked a half dozen blogs. they were either entirely neutral (concentrating on state issues exclusively) or pro-Obama (but not of the Obot variety).

In other words (and this will come as a shock to no one) Howard Dean is stacking the deck already....

with the blog picked for WA, The Horse's A**, and not just because the name is sophmoric.    Example:

Now that the legacy media has acknowledged what most of us have known for some time--Barack Obama is the presumptive Democratic nominee--

emphasis added. At least they put in "presumptive."

They also celebrated the Childer's win in spite of "racist" R ads, neglecting to point out Childer having to spend $$$ on "Obama Who?" ads.

but TL was robbed.  Robbed, I tell ya!

    Not so fast on that - (5.00 / 1) (#5)

the blogs named today are state-oriented blogs, and they will get seats on the floor with their respective state delegations.

TL, OTOH, is more of a national and topical (crime - from the defense perspective - politics and justice) blog, so naming TL as the Colorado blog might not have been as appopriate as was naming Square State.  I'd suspect TL will get credentials, just different ones.

a state blogger. TalkLeft does not blog about Colorado issues. TalkLeft applied to be part of the national blog corps, those blogs have not been announced yet.

so of course I'll be going. ProgressNow is setting up a place for bloggers a block from the Pepsi Center. I'd rather be credentialed and in the hall, as I was in 2004, but if we don't make the list of nationally credentialed bloggers, I'll be blogging from there.

I'll also be blogging it for Colorado's 5280 magazine where I do blog on Colorado issues.
