When I saw Scorsese's Shine a Light, I noticed that Ronnie Wood didn't look very well. He even looked worse than Keith Richards, and that's something.

Charlie Watts was the only Stone in the film who looked like he ate normally, went to the gym, and occasionally saw the light of day. Drummers. They have to stay fit.

Hmmm. Yet they are legendary at dying. See Keith Moon.

But point taken. I did read somewhere that Watts is, in fact, a health freak among rockers, never a druggie or a heavy boozer, who likes to stay home rather than go out and party. Of course, he has a much younger wife, so that might make staying home extra-pleasant...

Well, if drummers don't stay fit, (none / 0) (#5)

then they end up like Keith Moon!

Speaking as a girl who has been around a lot of rock and roll, I can tell you that the general wisdom here is this. You want an exciting, crazy relationship, you date the guitar player. You want a relationship with stamina, and some legs, you date the drummer. You want to be ignored, you date the lead singer. And you want to be bored, you date the bass player.

Me, I usually dated the guitar player....

supposedly was the prolific ladies man in the group...and he played bass.

But that probably had more to do with Mick being more interested in being a socialite, Keith and Ronnie being more interested in drugs, and Charlie being more interested in his drawings.  That left all the girls for Bill:)

...John Bonham (Led Zepplin), Paul Hester (Crowded House), Sandy West (the Runaways), Spencer Dryden (Jefferson Airplane), Randy Castillo (Ozzy), Buddy Miles (Band of Gypsies) have all died before their time.

Drummers are a different breed than most other musicians.  They don't have the same demons that tend to inflict highly creative people, but their demons are just as destructive.

guitarists and song writers tend to be tortured artist types...drummers are just a little crazy:)
