Wind In the Sails!

Ships in the harbor are safe," someone once said,  "but this is not what ships are made for."  And sometimes relationships become not partnerships in life's great adventure but excuses to stop ourselves from growing, taking risks, and living life to the fullest.

--Arianna Huffington, On Becoming Fearless.

This is the first page that I opened of Arianna's book that was being offered to bloggers that I picked up at her "Huffington Post Oasis: to unplug and recharge," a new age Yoga,  massage and meditation quiet zone on the third floor of the crazy zoo that is the Big Tent.

Jeralyn and I arrived earlier in the day, just as Arianna was swarmed by flashing bulbs, cameras, reporters and bloggers all wanting to talk to her about, well, everything. It was like watching the Marilyn Monroe/ Katharine Graham of the DNC. She maneuvered gracefully and through the crowd and gave her time and attention as if each reporter was the only one in the room. [more...]

Later, we went up to the "Oasis." I didn't need a massage, or yoga (spent 1 ½ in Bikram this morning) but the books on the shelf were a treat. Jeralyn made a good request to have hair-dryers and rooms to primp, as it's hot, sweaty and crowded everywhere.

Anyway, why am I bringing up the sailboat image that jumped out at me as I thumbed through my new copy of Arianna's book? Because Ted Kennedy's speech and the video tribute tonight did move me, unexpectedly.  My blog entries on my own blog, and Huffington post don't hide the fact I've been a Hillary supporter ever since I started researching her history with the press over a year ago.  Like many pragmatics,  I decided, reluctantly to support Obama the day Hillary dropped out.

But the pieces are coming together now, and Kennedy's and Jimmy Carter's video address did put some wind back into the sails for me.

So, here's to the setting sail for the future with Obama at the helm.  Okay?  What do you think?

I am sick of these so-called former Republicans relabeling themselves to claim to be insiders so they now trash Democrats from within rather than from outside.

That's the only difference, but it's far more damaging when they claim to be Democrats.

I begin to think they were sent by the Republicans in revenge for them getting stuck with the Dixicrats.  Same thing.  They divided the Democrats and then crossed over to screw up the Republicans.  Now the Arianna Ughintons and Markoses and more are screwing up the Dems.

She is the ultimate hate monger when it comes to the Clintons.  She was a close friend of the Gingrich family and her years as a right winger left no doubt about her deep seated CDS.

i chalk it up to it being just a really bad coincidence.

no, i haven't. i'm angrier by the day, at the thought of a "president obama". the DNC has clearly lost its collective minds, succumbing to some (hopefully ergot inspired) mass hysteria. i refuse to be part of that lunatic herd.

arianna huffington? pffffffffffffft! yeah, she knows about fearless alright, she fearlessly married a really rich guy, who gave her a platform she'd not ordinarily have ever achieved on her own merits. puhleaaaaaaaaaze!

if ms. huffington were ugly and poor, do you seriously think anyone would ever have paid any attention to her idiotic rantings? and please have the decency to not insult the memory of the late katherine graham, by comparing ms. huffington to her; the only way those two were alike is that ms. graham was also female.

(I didn't say the least thing in praise of Ariana, and wouldn't on pain of death.  Just wanted to be clear about that).  Actually, there's a YouTube clip of Ariana talking about Obama that I just saw the last few days, although I don't know when it was made, where she claims he's sympathetic to Hamas and would be very dangerous in a position of power.  Fwiw.  I just have a hard time not believing the claims that she's just a big famous people suck-up.

cpinva -- my having gotten over it remark was in reply to the previous comment (maybe it's not there now?) that Clinton supporters are just irrationally crying in their soup still (paraphrasing).  I've gotten over the Democratic Party.  Insults to my intelligence or principles don't move me.  There has been so much vitriol, even here on this highly moderated site, that it just doesn't affect me in the least.  Maybe if I were a lot younger, and less sure of myself, and felt I needed to 'prove' my liberalism to people, they'd have a greater effect.  But they don't.

I'm quite sure of myself, my principles, and my decision not to in any way support this iteration of the Democratic party.  I'm also not the only one.  That drives the louder, more vitriolic faction of the Obama party insane.  Aggressive groupthink tactics don't work on me, or many others.  But it's the only card they know how to play, so they can't control their fury when it doesn't work.

I'm past anger, and have gone on to what to do about it.  But I didn't mean to imply that anger wasn't justified, or right; of course it is.  Sorry if I gave that impression.

An editorial in today's NYTimes chides Hillary Clinton for not conceding with more "grace". They wouldn't dare say this if they were talking about a male politician. I can't stand them.

Then, there is Michelle, looking great, soaking up the applause, and then starting off with a joke about Barack's basketball playing. I don't have time for this.

Then there is the general spectacle of conventioneers reveling to rock music as our soldiers die in Iraq.

that we all have to remember that despite the deep flaws of the democratic party, the deep flaws of the DNC, and the flaws of Obama that the Democratic Party is still the best shot we have of getting this country moving in the direction of the right track.

We are off the rails folks. Choosing the lesser of two evils over and over again is maddening. But it is what is before us.

I understand that some people in their despair, or rage, or in what they believe to be a calculated political move think otherwise, but in the end there are only two kinds of actions that can be taken between here and November. Actions that give aid and comfort to the Republican led oligarchy, and those that have a small chance of getting us back on track via the deeply flawed democratic party.

Everything else is pissing in the ocean.

You are missing the point, still. (5.00 / 9) (#16)

Or again, or even yet, or something.

People have gotten over their anger, and moved on.

2% less evil isn't worth bothering to check a box for.

Obama supporters persist in believing that this is about petulance, or revenge, or other juvenile emotions.  It's much, much easier to think that than to face the fact that he's not a good candidate, and the Democratic party would rather sing kumbaya with the very Republicans we're supposed to be so appalled by than stand up for women, for the working class, for minorities other than AAs, or any other group they should be championing rather than shoving under the bus.

It's not.  It's about principles and what people can bring themselves to support.  And it's not the DNC anymore.

I'll come back when they give a cr*p about me and my concerns.

See here. I am convinced that both will put judges on SCOTUS that I do not approve of. See BTD's thread on Cass Sunstein here. And then there is FISA, the fact that he is without almost any experience for the position, he is untested in the vital areas necessary for such a position.
