The report in TrooperGate will be out Oct. 10 as scheduled.

The Alaska lawmaker directing an abuse-of-power investigation of Gov. Sarah Palin promised Friday the probe will be finished before the election, despite refusals by key witnesses to testify, including the governor's husband.

After waiting 35 minutes for Todd Palin and two state administrative employees to appear under subpoena before the state Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Hollis French condemned their refusal to testify and the attorney general's broken promise that seven other witnesses would testify who were not subpoenaed.

Prediction: It will be critical of Palin, and Palin will complain it's one-sided, making no reference to her and her husband and staff's refusal to cooperate.

Palinspeak: The only probe I'll cooperate with is one in which those making the decisions are under my direction and control (like the state personnel board.)

Newsweek's Stumper cites another poll with similar findings and says:

All in all, she'd gone from the most to least popular White House hopeful over the course of five short days.

And those events she's been canceling for next week? They aren't just in California. She's canceled one in Colorado. Sounds to me like they decided she needs to be in debate training all week.

    Palin is a reformer all right.  She's not only going to clean up Warshington, she's going to clean out the Alaska legislators who have dared to investigate her.

    What is the basis of the First Dude's refusal to cooperate with the investigation?  I mean, he doesn't even have the Rovian "executive privilege" figleaf to hide behind. Is it the spousal privilege to refuse to testify against one's spouse? I think that privilege is only available in criminal proceedings, but Jeralyn correct me if I'm wrong.  

    In any event, if that's what he's claiming, he ought to be forced to invoke it.  Calling an investigation that commenced prior to Palin's nomination "too political" to respond to is simply unacceptable; both Palins ought to be called on it.

    she actually fired him because he wanted funds to tackle Alaska's serious sexual assault problems?  Because that interpretation is somehow much more favourable to Palin.  No, she doesn't fire people out of pique because they won't improperly dismiss people she has a grudge against,   instead she is more concerned with getting earmarks and pork than tackling sexual assaults and rapes.  Not sure which demographic that interpretation will play well with for McCain-Palin, maybe they are going after the rapist vote?

    The GOP talking points on this are pretty silly. Basically it comes down to the trooper, the top cop, the troopers union and the legislature all being either evil, misguided, confused or wrong.  WHich is quite a story to sell.

    I dont think it will be the apocolypse for her but it looks bad and will continue to look bad.

    If you or I were to be investigated could we just
    refufe to show up for a hearing ? Maybe if I was
    a Govenor or VP canidate or relation or employee
    of said person then I would have that privilege.
    Then I could have the case switched over to a
    Board where I had appointed all of the members.
    Frget it, if it was you or I we would more that
    likely be picked up and thrown in jail until we
    did testify.  They don't get my vote by refuseing
    to obey the law.

    ABC News just found the travel voucher approving Monegans trip to Washington to lobby for funds to prevent sexual assault--the trip which Palin claimed was unauthorized and the reason for his dismissal.

    Now her spokesperson is claiming that while the trip was authorized, the reason why he was going was not.

    You can't make this stuff up.

    I mean the guy she replacced him with had to resign 2 weeks later because he was facing a sexual harrassment lawsuit (something Palin knew at the time), and yet that also has no relevancy to this particular allegation.
