Six Detainees Released From Guantanamo

The Pentagon announced today it released six detainees from Guantanamo. All had been determined, after multiple reviews, of not being enemy combatants.

Four were sent to Iraq, one to Afghanistan and one to Algeria. The detainee returned to Afghanistan was Bizmullah. From the DOD press release:

he Department of Defense has determined – through its comprehensive review processes - that approximately 60 detainees at Guantanamo are eligible for transfer or release. Departure of these detainees is subject to ongoing discussions between the United States and other nations.

245 detainees remain at Guantanamo.

    Just in time for Bush to make a get-away.  What else is can we expect before Tuesday?  Perhaps we can send him off to Algeria.

    apologize for holding and torturing an innocent man for years because you thought maybe they knew something that could help you? How does one compensate for that... the years lost, the mental suffering, the nightmares that will last a lifetime.

    All this says is that after final review of multiple reviews that the cases to hold the men were not proven.  In the case of the guy from Afghanistan, he was not a fighter and will no longer have a chance to leak information because no one will trust him, so the risk of releasing him is low even if he is guilty.

    questions...

    where are the court records?

    why did it take so long to do the reviews?

    there are pleny more questions, diogenes... ask them first, not last.
