Obama Snubs Fox In Tour Of Sunday Talk Shows

President Obama will do the "full Ginsburg" (coined by Tweety in honor of Monica Lewinsky's attorney William Ginsburg who did all the morning talk shows in one morning during the period of insanity that was that "scandal") of the Sunday talk shows -- except for Fox. Fox don't like it:

FNC's Neil Cavuto took a satirical look at the White House passing on FOX as part of Pres. Obama's Sunday show rounds. "Fox ain't on the list," said Cavuto, adding, "I'm here to tell you, Mr. President, it's ok. I'm ok. But this ain't sitting well with other broadcasters you are leaving out. You didn't hear it from me, Mr. President, but I'm told the folks at ESPN are furious. ESPN-2, too, and the the Speed Channel..."

In related news, the President will be the only guest on David Letterman Monday night. Jay Leno counter programs with Rush Limbaugh on Thursday the 24th. Since I never watched Leno ever, no skin off my nose.

good on Obama.  speaking of the ugliness out there, FOX is behind most of it.

but I don't know if it's the smart move...its probably next to impossible to change a Fox viewer's mind, but does it hurt to try?

And it kinda makes it look like he's scared of big bad Fox.

...it changed absolutely nothing. The debate hosted by McCain supporter Rick Warren -- a similar attempt to "not look scared" and "change an opponent's mind" -- did absolutely NOTHING, apparently. Worse than nothing? Probably.

    Lesson learned. Don't even bother.

but then we might as well just split this b*tch up into two or three countries if all hope is lost at ever finding common ground we all can live with.

I just can't give up on all of right-leaning America, just like I can't give up on my man PPJ having an epiphany on defense issues:) If they're watching Fox, better to have Obama speak for himself than have Neil Cavuto speak for him...even if the task is daunting.

I know the Fox crex and their Republican friends didn't give two sh*ts about us and our concerns when their boys were in charge...but we're supposed to take the high road.

I'm playing a 'lil devils advocate obviously...I don't think Obama is on the people's side, but if he is he should probably go on Fox and continue making the effort, even if the odds of success are slim to none.

fireside chats were heard by left and right...today if you wanna be heard by the right you gotta go on Fox.

I hear what you're saying, we're never gonna get along politically, but we do have to share this land and live under its laws.  Not saying you don't draw lines in the sand on policy where warranted, like FDR did, but I don't see what is gained by no longer attempting to convince the opposition to get on board with what you think is right.

by Fabian on Wed Sep 16, 2009 at 09:30:25 AM EST
One of his commenters asked why he didn't do more media appearances.  Greenwald's answer was essentially: "I do all the appearances I want to.  Most of the media shows are so sound bite oriented that it would be a waste of my time to appear on them.".

Media appearances are a good way to reach a larger audience - but at a price.  The average media appearance is probably more useful for driving traffic to a blogger's website than actually getting a message out.

After the way they have treated Obama and the Democrats, particularly through facilitating Beck and his followers in their idiocy, lying, racism, and sedition, they should be glad they're still on the air.

Murdoch got the face-to-face sitdown and butt-chewing from Obama personally last year during the campaign when his networks went all nutso after both of the Obamas with the "secret terrorist fist-bump" crap.  They had their chance to become responsible.  They blew it.

Frankly (and I haven't taken the time to go back and look at my old diary), I recall putting "undertake to destroy the business model which supports Fox and particularly Fox News) on my list of things to do if I were president.  It should be on Obama's - it's like excising a cancer.  IF you don't deal with it now, it will only be worse, and hurt more, to deal with it later.

    to watch them.

My funniest Fox News experience remains the night of the 2006 midterm elections.  My cable provider at the time - for whatever reason - lost sound.  This was OK, b/c it was silent movie night on IFC and I didn't miss the sound.  But I then fell asleep in front of the TV and woke about 3 am to see Cavuto and colleagues going on about the results and how horrible they were.

    Only, without sound.  F'g hilarious.

They looked more scared - terrified - than the villagers in the old witch/witchraft movie that had been on earlier.

    As to Leno, word is (5.00 / 2) (#19)
by scribe on Wed Sep 16, 2009 at 09:39:00 AM EST
he's already failing with this hour-a-night bit, and already flailing for guests.

NBC won't humilitate him by yanking his show quickly - he's been a good earner for them for years and will get a long leash - but his presence, and the concept of his show,  is likely not long for this world.  The only advantage to NBS (and it's not insubstantial) is that as an unscripted show there are neither writers nor casts nor production costs to pay.  They just put Jay up on the same stage every night, wind him up and let him run.  (Which, I guess, says as much about the economics of TV today as anything else.) Watch the trade papers when they start building pilots for the fall '10 season - if a whole lot more pilots are getting cast and made, it's a sign Jay's gone, b/c without him they have to fill 5 nights a week at 10 PM.

for me, is why Leno has the following he does.   The only thing new about his much hyped return is the the time-slot.  Same tired humor and old format...just watch for those "fresh" Clinton/Monica jokes and those reliable  homophobic side-splitters. And, that band leader, Kevin Eubanks, is back to provide obnoxious frosting on that stale cake.  Just watched the other night for curiosity, but that will hold me for all time.
