NYTimes On Feingold

NYTimes Editorial:

[I]n three terms, [Feingold] has distinguished himself for trying to bring fairness to campaign finance and decency to national security, among other achievements. He has routinely crossed party lines to work with Republicans and has had the courage to break with his own party more often than almost any other senator.

He voted against confirming Tim Geithner as Treasury secretary, citing Mr. Geithner’s personal tax issues. He refused to support the Wall Street reform package because it did not go far enough. He was the only senator who voted against the misguided Patriot Act in 2001. He has supported gun rights — more than we like — and has opposed hate crime measures.

[. . .] Mr. Feingold is one of the very few [Democrats] with the self-confidence to offer a full-throated defense of his votes. [. . .] Mr. Feingold is making the case that there is a choice to make on Nov. 2 and that there is a need for thoughtful voices in Washington.

If you can, give Russ some cheddar.

with a huge war chest, but sure, it always helps.

This NYT editorial may help, but the NYT is read in Wisconsin by the people already voting for him.

I think that perhaps lots of letters to the editor would help, letters to the editors of Wisconsin papers that other sorts of voters read.  Research the race -- including about his opponent, wannabe Senator Sunspots -- and research the papers that other sorts of voters read.  Then write, write, write about how wise Wisconsin voters have been in past to return reasonable people to office who put so many others in Congress to shame, as Wisconsin will be shamed if wannabe Senator Sunspots gets to be one.

Remind the voters that they have done well and need to do so again.  That the first debate was nationally broadcast, because it has national significance.

(I hope that the last debate will be, as it will be a far better format for Feingold to shine and to show why Sunspots should not be in office.)

Senator Feingold's knowledge of government and its details are being, apparently with too much success, portrayed by his opponent as a weakness.  Mr. Johnson's counter- platform is a pledge to ignorance---details are not what he says the election is about, swiftboating competence is.

The dumb as a bag of rocks factor is still all too common.

Dumb as a bag of rocks describes a significant percentage of our electorate and it's prevailed for decades.
