Christmas Afternoon Open Thread

Time for a little irreverance: A funny SNL claymation with Darlene Love (hat tip Mediaite)reminding that not everyone celebrates Christmas.

Over at Mother Jones (and Solitary Watch): Santa was in prison and Jesus Gets the Death Penalty.

We send good thoughts and wishes to the 2,284,900 people in our jails and prisons, the children of the incarcerated, and everyone in nursing homes and hospitals.

On a more traditional note, check out CBS and the top world news of 2010 in pictures.

This is another open thread, all topics welcome.

If it's an hour and a half, since it's always about an hour fifteen if I take my son to Lookout Mtn/Rock City/Ruby Falls, etc.

So where in GA are you?

looking at the map I am directly east of him. We got our dog in Cave Spring which is right outside of Rome and it took us about 1 1/2 hours to get there. I'm in Cherokee County.

    Are you in TN?

Tyrone, just south of Atlanta Hartsfield airport. Spending the weekend with my brother and family. All his wife's family are from around here, so it was a big family Christmas. The snow was a nice touch!

Relaxing watching the Bears game with my brother as the kids play upstairs. Good times!

my own true border story (none / 0) (#10)
by Dadler on Sat Dec 25, 2010 at 07:37:43 PM EST
Coming back from an Ensenada and La Bufadora trip, we accidentally got into the sentry lane. I knew we'd messed up, and we thought about getting out and pulling a weird u-turn, but decided that would look more suspiscious. So we got to the front of the sentry lane, and the border patrol guy, an American, just rips us a new one, how could we not know we weren't supposed to be in the lane, yap yap, being a total jerk to my wife, who was driving. I finally said, look, yell at me, not my wife, just send us to the back of the regular line, we'll wait all day (I just wanted to get away from this a-hole). He finally sends us to another agent, whom he says may decide to tear our car apart before he send us to the back. Great, we think, just what we need, our already crappy car turned into a thousand piece model kit by La Migra.  So we pull to the next station, where we fully expect to wait hours while our car is ripped rivet to rivet in the search for drugs or human cargo, but instead we get a ridiculously friendly agent, who looked to be of Filipino descent. We gave him our short story, ready to be ripped another new one, when he just smiles and says, I kid you not, in the most innocent and childlike tone you could imagine under the circumstances: "Oh, okay, I haven't even been to Mexico, I bet it's really confusing, huh? You're fine, just go ahead." And he let us through.

    Ah humanity!

Home?  We ain't got no home...

    I ain't got no home, I'm just a-roamin' 'round,
Just a wandrin' worker, I go from town to town.
And the police make it hard wherever I may go
And I ain't got no home in this world anymore.

Now as I look around, it's mighty plain to see
    This world is such a great and a funny place to be;
Oh, the gamblin' man is rich an' the workin' man is poor,
And I ain't got no home in this world anymore.
