22 year old Jared Lee Loughner is the suspect in custody in the Tucson, Arizona shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords this morning. Here's his You Tube channel. He calls himself Classitup10.

He favorited this video,which begins with a breathy voice saying "Let the bodies hit the floor."

Update: When I wrote this post at 2:30 pm MT, fewer than 300 people had viewed Loughner's videos on You Tube. At 11:30 pm, the number of views for two of the videos has grown to 182,000.

I realize that's saying a lot, but his videos remind me of the ramblings of a friend's paranoid schizophrenic son. There is probably a history of mental illness here. And therefore the tea partiers and Palinites will breathe a sigh of relief and continue talking about "Second Amendment remedies" like the irresponsible idiots they are.

I believe there actually ARE evil people in the world - we see proof of it everyday.

But I think he's completely around the bend, mentally. This does not mean that I think he would necessarily have done this without all the current right-wing propaganda (and, yes, I think these propagandists bear more than some responsibility), but I don't think that he's "cold and evil." I think that he's mentally ill and easily led. This does not absolve him from his actions, and it certainly does not absolve those who have created the climate that facilitated his actions.

In a message to Senate offices, US Capitol Police stated, "There is no indication at this time that this event is part of a larger threat against the Congressional membership or has a nexus to terrorism but the investigation is ongoing."

You know, when the Capitol Police (or any other parts of the government) talks about "terrorism", maybe they should admit they're really talking about "Muslims". Then people won't have to decipher their Newspeak to understand what they really meant.

Just great....figured it was politically motivated but I didn't want to jump to conclusions in the midst of crisis. of favorites for someone who attended community college, I must say. Plato's Republic was on there, too, and the Odyssey. His obsession with formal syllogisms, not all of them correctly constructed, is pretty weird, though.

In my case, I attended a Calif. community college (in the days when they were the envy of the nation) and received a great education--much better than the one I received after transferring to a UC that had a pass/fail/evaulation system, instead of making us work our a$$es off for an "A." And the communty college had a much more diverse student body.

In my defense I was in high school at the time. And I quickly figured out that my beliefs were more in line with Emma Goldman than they were with Rand.

If you've read one Rand novel, you have essentially read them all. She was hardly an original thinker, nor was she a very good novelist.

The sheriff said they are looking for an approximately 50 year old white male (person of interest) but was clear to say they did not suspect anyone else of shooting. It was reported no other weapons were fired.
