Lori Berenson and Son Arrive in U.S.

After three days of bureaucratic wrangling, including being prevented at the airport from boarding a flight, Lori Berenson arrived in Newark, NJ this morning on a flight from Peru.

It is Lori's first time home since her arrest in 1995. She must return to Peru to finish her parole on January 11. Here's a timeline of events in her case.

    Because we incarcerate people we call terrorists in far more inhumane conditions that we euphemize as supermax prisons, and Peru, post Fujimora, would not stoop so low?

    full pound of flesh as much as we do it appears.

    It is odd considering she is outta prison on parole in Peru, but can't leave Peru, permanently anyway.  Authority demands respect while not making much sense much of the time...funny that.

    Do we have an extradition treaty with Peru?  Could she fight extradition on the grounds she is a political prisoner?

    Our political prisoner is Peru's "terrorist".
