    hasn't quite learned this.  Still thinks change can come within the political system we have.

    I wouldn't call it progressives anything.  I would call it People United.  And my focus would be direction action outside the current political system--collective organization and protest.

    Color me suspicious...This might be a means of making disillusioned Democrats FEEL like they're doing something, and then donate money that gets funneled back to the Democrats.

    All I know was Feingold was always a big talker and then typically folded just like the rest of them do.

    impression of Feingold was that he was one of the very few who did not fold. eg: the wars, the patriot act...
    My impression was that the herd went one way, and he held his ground...

    Senate race and Rand Paul and Jack Conway--could have been better spent on Russ Feingold.

    He only lost by 5 points.  If all the Conway time and money had been spent on Russ, then......

    What a Quixotic quest to elect Conway, who was not nearly as liberal as Russ.....What myopia....

    I hate that the video clip has no energy, no real passion, just a very unbelieveable we're-going-to-hold-corporations-and-politicians-accountable message.

    As if.

    Maybe "The Torches and Pitchforks Society" would have a little more oomph than "Progressives United" which isn't going to scare anyone; I'm pretty sure the Masters of the Universe, including the MOTU-wannabe who lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, are laughing their asses off right about now.

    I give Feingold credit for wanting to do aomething, but we're past these little dot-orgs with nice hey-I-bet-they-like-a-nice-wine-too titles.

    I was all for Feingold... but when I saw the name... well, nothing.

    Part of it is, I guess, that Obama somehow became identified as a sort of progressive... the organizer and all that. So he dragged the brand into the abyss.

    But we sure need a challenge to the peculiar stagnant state of affairs that exists in our country.

    For me, the ongoing wars are a constant drain.
    They are in my awareness.
    At the moment I am thinking of what it has been doing to our soldiers - what they have to do - what they have to cope with over there and when they come back. And it is not even a topic for discussion. It makes me angry and there is no way I can express it.

    I do like the idea of a group forming outside the Democratic Party establishment, not sure Feingold is the one to lead it.  

    But the name IS a problem.  "Progressives" for me (and I realize this is my own bias) means young college-educated white males with certain blindnesses due to privilege and a real lack of basic historical knowledge.  

    But Progressives United?  Do these progressives Mean Action?

    Or is someone else, with a certain skepticism, appending the words:  My A$$???

    Once again, a certain blindness and lack of historicity -- even very recent history.

    Or maybe we'll see a showdown:  Progressives United vs. Citizens United.  I'm sure neither one will be Not Timid.

    There's no question that the Democratic Party needs a major push to the left. Obama has marched the party so far to the right, I can't even recognize it anymore.

    I just hope his progressive campaign has as much impact on the Democrats, as the tea party movement has had on Republicans.

    Democrats have lost the art of fighting! They're much better at wringing their hands and stating that there's nothing they can do to stop the big bad Republicans.

    They couldn't even get their act together then they controlled it all and had the mythical 60 vote majority!

    Maybe we need a little "insanity" in the blood line.

    it will never happen.  genetically impossible.  the reason they are so unified is because the "fall in line" they are "ditto heads".
    you will never hear terms like that applied to the left because we find the very idea repugnant.

    We used to be able to agree on basic party principles. I never thought I would hear Democratic Senators ripping the unions or demand pro life legislation. If this is the state of the party, then we definitely need a shake up.

    was also a time when the democrats had a powerful proportion of "dixiecrats". A bunch of racists. And people pretended that they were not really part of the democratic party. It took Malcolm to say quite simply that "a dixiecrat is nothing but a democrat".

    Now we talk about blue dogs and centrists.

    But they're nothing but democrats.

    And it really stinks.

    a determination to join together on a few items, and push hard (maybe with that semi-insanity flavoring.) With the concerted conservative push in the latter half of the 20th century, it does seem as if Democrats were drained somewhat. From my standpoint, I'd like to emphasize the importance of an understanding to advance on a few identifiable issues...while avoiding tearing each other up on different approaches to the same goal.

    While I don't think strategic discipline is the be-all & end-all of moving issues forward, without a doubt the ability to cohere (despite thorny differences) is an important component. It works for the Repubs almost every time.

    As a salesman for most of my adult life, what more could I want than to have a product that everyone wants, and that no one else out there has?

    On every "blind" survey taken the public consistantly, and overwhelmingly, prefers the Left's ideas and programs. It's to the Right's  credit that they've been able to demonize the word, "Liberal," and make the word, "Conservative," the place that most of the uninformed electorate want to be.

    Does anyone think that Obama would've gotten such a huge mandate if he ran on a platform of "I'm more Right than Reagan?"
