Billionaire Couple Give Newt Gingrich PAC $10 Million

Newt Gingrich has taken $10 million (so far) from a PAC funded by Las Vegas billionaire Sheldon Adelman and his wife.

What's Newt doing with the money? He's bought $6 million of ad time in Florida.

Newt, of course, pretends people power is fueling his campaign:

"Gov. Romney will have vastly more money than I will," Gingrich said, but suggested he has more grassroots support. "People power beats money power every time."

Adelson owns, among other things, the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. I'm crossing that one off my list of places to stay.

Doesn't think Mittens has a chance in hell of winning against Obama.  I have to admit I agree.  At least Newt has blood in his veins.  Maybe Sheldon thinks that is a better bet than the guy who looks like he might actually open his jaws and swallow whole the next person he greets with his big blank grin.  They might any day change the name to greet and eat.
So yeah, I can't blame that guy for trying to get SOMEONE to beat Mitt.

the kind of thing that after this season will help to get the laws changed.  the guy is really piece of work.  I already was reading about him.  I thought this from his wiki was good:

In 2011, the Israeli press said that Adelson was unhappy with coverage of him on Israeli Channel Ten, alleging that Adelson had acquired a casino license in Las Vegas inappropriately through political connections.[28] He reportedly forced the channel to apologize. This in turn led to the resignation of the news chief, Reudor Benziman, the news editor, Ruti Yuval and the news anchor, Guy Zohar who objected to the apology.

but someone made what I thought was a really good point about this guy the other day.

is having one billionaire finance your campaign really that much worse than having 5.  or 10?

pointless mission of getting Newt elected president I guess.

I actually think the laws may be changed after this season.  I would say especially if lightening strikes and Newt takes the nomination or even throws the primary into a total mess.  if that happens it will be the republicans that you can say were hoisted on their own petard.  you know, it might be possible (possible) they will see the danger of unintended consequences and join in some effort to bring sanity to the whole mess.

    or maybe not.

should hire me as I've actually lived in the nut's district.

I never thought Newt Gingrich winning a primary would be so much fun. The National Review is having a time with this too. I just read an editorial that said basically the only elections Gingrich has ever won is in a gerrymandered district. He has not even won statewide office here in GA. They are right about him on that account :). At least Santorum and Romney have been able to win a statewide race.

them burning them, but I do like when they spend them. Especially when they go big bucks in the primaries. Florida should go well over 20 million in TV spending on this before next week is over. And if it stays close Romney will run that total up even higher.

"Gov. Romney will have vastly more money than I will," Gingrich said, but suggested he has more grassroots support. "People power beats money power every time."

That quote is entirely true right now. Romney has doubled the money Gingrich has spent on TV now in Florida. And crowds are out for Gingrich.

    From the Naples Daily News:
"Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich's stop in Naples Tuesday night filled the grounds with an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 people --more than five times the expected number."

    From the LA Times:
"While Romney spoke Wednesday morning at a metal distribution facility in Orlando, 300 unused chairs remained stacked off to the side.  That was more than the number of people he attracted, no more than 250 in all."

I have seen that cbs poll reported on two different tv shows tonight.  one just went into great depth with all this information, broken down by subject and demographic, all from last year. its weird.  and sort of hilarious.  but I think we can forgive ourselves for being taken in.

the post on politico is still up.  or was the last time I looked.
