Too bad this doesn't mean that Ryan has to resign his House seat first or, at least, withdraw from the race for his Congressional seat.

Honestly, as much as I loathe him and everything he stands for, he has a clear agenda that appeals to GOP voters. Let's not kid ourselves, this will pump more than just the tea partiers. If Romney had picked almost anyone else, it wouldn't have changed a thing as far his his chances. But these guys are baring their teeth now. They're playing to win. I hope Obama/Biden are up to the task.

I dunno, I think South Carolina's most recent Governor Strangeperson would have put some interesting factors into play.

The people who believe we were founded as a Christian Nation are now going to have to vote for a VP who is a Randian. Rand proclaimed at every opportunity that she was a militant atheist who felt nothing but contempt for Christianity as a religion of weaklings possessing a slave mentality.

When Ryan described his April budget as based on (none / 0) (#22)
by DFLer on Sat Aug 11, 2012 at 09:23:50 AM EST
Catholic principles, he ran into a ton of opposition from some Amer. Catholic leaders

Nearly 60 prominent theologians, priests, nuns and national Catholic social justice leaders released a statement today refuting Rep. Paul Ryan's claim that his GOP budget proposal reflects Catholic teaching on care for the poor, which he made in an interview earlier this week with the Christian Broadcasting Network. The group of Catholic leaders -- including a former high-ranking U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops official, a priest in Rep. Ryan's district and the leadership team of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas -- called on Ryan to "reconsider his radical budget proposal and refrain from distorting Church teaching."

"If Rep. Ryan thinks a budget that takes food and healthcare away from millions of vulnerable people upholds Catholic values, then he also probably believes Jesus was a Tea Partier who lectured the poor to stop being so lazy and work harder," said John Gehring, Catholic Outreach Coordinator at Faith in Public Life. "This budget turns centuries of Catholic social teaching on its head. These Catholic leaders and many Catholics in the pews are tired of faith being misused to bless an immoral agenda."

The leaders wrote: "Simply put, this budget is morally indefensible and betrays Catholic principles of solidarity, just taxation and a commitment to the common good. A budget that turns its back on the hungry, the elderly and the sick while giving more tax breaks to the wealthiest few can't be justified in Christian terms."

Seems that I was just saying the same thing as my husband & I tried to control the mirth we have experienced here on a relaxing Santa Fe trip as we heard the right-mandated "selection" earlier.  (checking home phone messages finds more mirth there too.)

The present situation as to what the Sunday sermons at Mass will sound like....well, I'm not wincing at the thought of an October sustained sermon now because the Ryan budget does cause a dilemma as to continued harangue from the more conservative Bishops.  Maybe a stand-off for now...let's hope.  Go nuns!  (And, three cheers on this one for Los Angeles Archbishop Gomez WH o has stymied some of his further right brethren by his strong support for immigration's Dream Act & other related support, for his standing back from the full-throated outcry against the ACA "who pays" insurance contraception question, & who has pushed for a budget to help the poorer among us.  The position of the L A Archbishop is significant, btw, in overall policy emanating from the council.)
