Erick son of Erick speaks:
Todd Akin will withdraw from the MO Senate race.

In as loud and unified a voice as possible, Dems need to shout that what we heard from Todd Akin, what Paul Ryan believes, on this subject and others, IS the Republican Party.
Claire's probably wetting the pants her daughter told her to wear; she was well down in the polls against this Neanderthal - there's no way she beats a less reactionary Republican. Parent
People have a right to know how much crazy they're thinking about voting for - even if an Akin replacement has a better filter between his or her lizard brain and his or her mouth. Parent
Still, I don't recall anyone running for both a Senate nomination and a House nomination simultaneously. Parent
I would be remiss if I failed to mention that the current U.S. Ambassador to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg appointed by Obama is a Gator. Parent
And, since he voluntarily quit his job as a member of the House, he is not eligible for unemployment insurance. Wow, he'll be screwed. Parent
Don't know whether to laugh or cry...
"U.S. Rep. Todd Akin stood firm against mounting GOP pressure for him to quit Missouri's Senate race on Monday afternoon, tweeting: "I am in this race to win."
As Republican groups pulled funding from his campaign, Akin went on to ask donors to give money, saying "we need a conservative.""
I hope he stays in. It adds excitement and Missouri can "show me" whether they are nuts in November. Parent
Brownback further incited protestors when he spoke on the issue of abortion after rape or incest. According to Brownback, "The perpetrator's crime was his action and he should pay for that. The woman's action is to have the abortion. That was her decision, and she should pay for that."

But seriously, shouldn't parties be told if your candidate drops out, tough, it's the person running, not the party, you don't own that slot?
there might be some fallout among MO's "independents", especially women, but i doubt it. since there's no such thing as a true political "independent" (check their voting record), any references to them should be ignored.
akin knows his audience. he knows that they hate that kenyan, muslim, Black man! usurper in the white house so much, they'd vote for satan, if he ran as a republican. most especially, if he ran as a tea party republican.
Looks like it is over for Akin.
If Akin quits on or before Tuesday, the Republican Party name his replacement. If Akin waits, he would need a court order to drop off the ballot.
McCaskill spent $2 million during the GOP primary touting Akin's conservative bona fides in an apparent effort to get him more conservative votes. Her campaign felt Akin would be the weakest GOP candidate, thus giving Claire a better shot at winning in November. Parent
I'm still not sure the tea party isn't going to be enraged by removing Akin and replacing him with someone else as in all honesty they are likely to agree with what Akin has been saying. They already feel that Romney was "forced" on them and now they are going to have the GOP hand pick a senate candidate in MO for them. The ultimate problem really is that the tea party is so out of the mainstream that anyone they pick would be likely to lose. Parent
Todd Akin rape claim is the tip of the GOP wacko iceberg
The Bachelor Hickenlooper will probably be running for POTUS in 2016. We could well end up with someone even worse than Maes for Governor then.
On the plus side, Hick '16 will give TL'ers something to complain about in the future. Parent
Claire McCaskill (or her daughter) may be his first contributor. Parent
