Oscar Nominees in List Format

It's not easy to find a list of the Oscar nominees in text format -- who wants to watch a video to see the list of nominees, or view a list in photospread format? Not me. I want text. Xfinity has ruined On Demand as far as I'm concerned. I don't want to see photos of available shows. I want a text list. I can read. It takes far too long to process a photo and to watch a video? Forget it.

First they took away cursive. Now they are taking away text. I hope somebody starts a revolution to end the media's obsession with video and graphics. Maybe Donald Trump's poorly educated suporters appreciate them, but I don't.

This is a thread for all things Oscar, TV, Film and Media related.

    ROOM - Amazing (5.00 / 1) (#4)
by Cashmere on Sat Feb 27, 2016 at 06:01:12 PM EST
I have not seen many of these films, but I did see ROOM and it was brilliant, from my perspective.

    I'm going to watch it ... (none / 0) (#5)
by Robot Porter on Sat Feb 27, 2016 at 07:03:47 PM EST
    later tonight.

    Looking forward to it.

As I said, it's the only one of the Best Picture nominees I haven't seen.

Looks like I have one last (none / 0) (#11)

chance to see it this afternoon. Better forego the fence cleaning and go see a movie on Oscar Day, especially one with Best Actress buzz!

    I saw it last night ... (5.00 / 1) (#12)

    fantastic.

The plot makes it sound depressing.

    But it's actually uplifting.

    Isn't the "best director" award given (5.00 / 1) (#6)
by Peter G on Sat Feb 27, 2016 at 09:57:37 PM EST
to a director, by name of director, not to a film?  What are the nominated directors' names?  Also, pretty sure that "Brooklyn" and "Mad Max" are two different films.

    yes, and I (none / 0) (#8)

totally missed them on the Oscar site because their names were printed in such a light color I didn't see them.

    Room was excellent. (5.00 / 1) (#9)
by magster on Sun Feb 28, 2016 at 12:44:52 AM EST
Better than The Martian. Those are the only two I've seen. Wife really liked Brooklyn, but said Room was better.

That's all I have to contribute.

We saw every one of the B.P. nominees. (none / 0) (#10)

They were all good, but I don't think "Mad Max: Fury Road" or "Bridge of Spies" should've been included on that list. I'd have chosen "Straight Outa Compton" as a nominee over both of them.

I'm rooting for "Spotlight," but I think "The Revenant" is going to get the nod. Those are the two nominated films that really stood out for me this past year along with "Compton," which inexplicably failed to make the cut.

    Aloha.

    Of course, lest we conveniently forget, ... (5.00 / 1) (#13)
by Donald from Hawaii on Sun Feb 28, 2016 at 06:58:32 PM EST
... and on an unfortunately related note, last night marked the occasion of the 36th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards (aka "The Razzies"), Oscar's dirty and lice-ridden little cousin from across the tracks, which dishonor last year's sorriest excuses for cinematic entertainment. Per Rolling Stone's breathless coverage of the event:

"Fifty Shades of Grey put on a dominating performance at the 36th annual Razzie Awards - the annual pre-Oscars event that celebrates the worst films of the year - as the cinematic adaptation 'won' five Golden Raspberry Awards.

"The film's stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan were named Worst Actress and Worst Actor as well as Worst Onscreen Duo, while the film also scooped up the Worst Screenplay trophy. Despite racking up the Razzies, Fifty Shades of Grey had to share its win in the night's least prestigious category - Worst Film - as the movie tied with the Fantastic Four reboot for that honor.

"A year after Eddie Redmayne won Best Actor at the Academy Awards for The Theory of Everything - and a night before Redmayne is up for another Best Actor nod for The Danish Girl - the British actor added a Razzie to his trophy case thanks to his win in the Worst Supporting Actor category for his role in Jupiter Ascending. Kaley Cuoco earned Worst Supporting Actress for Alvin & The Chipmunks: Road Chip.

Fantastic Four director Josh Trank was named Worst Director, with the maligned reboot also scoring Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel. Sylvester Stallone, a three-time Worst Actor Razzie winner (for Rhinestone, Rocky IV/Rambo: First Blood Part II and Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot), was given the night's Redeemer Award for his Oscar-nominated reprisal of Rocky Balboa in Creed."

Here is the complete list of this year's Razzie nominations, which is accompanied by the plaintive whining of some poor woman who obviously lived vicariously through several consecutive screenings of Fifty Shades of Grey on multiple occasions, and simply couldn't understand how anyone could be so cruel to its two dreamy stars -- apparently not noticing that this torrid onscreen couple had exhibited all the personal chemistry of two auto mechanics trying to figure out how to rebuild the transmission of a '62 Dodge Dart.

    Aloha.

    I'm with you on text (none / 0) (#1)

I hate the big 'poster' for the Netflix selections too, that overwhelm the text underneath. Same way even on Audible for audiobooks. Seeing the book cover is pretty, but does not help me know the title and author when I am looking at it on a tiny screen, or even my computer.

My probably wrong Oscar predictions/followed by what I want:
    Picture:  The Revenant/The Big Short
    Actor: DiCaprio/Fassbender
Actress: Larson/no preference - have not seen any of these movies!
    Supporting Actor: Stallone/Bale
    Supporting actress: Leigh/Leigh
    Director: the Revenant/The Big Short
Foreign Film: The one about the Holocaust/ no preference
    Original Screenplay: Spotlight/Spotlight

    One nominee missing: (none / 0) (#2)
by Donald from Hawaii on Sat Feb 27, 2016 at 05:33:42 PM EST
Cate Blanchett, as Best Actress for "Carol." Personally, I found that movie to be dreadfully overblown, but both she and fellow nominee did do a very good job, given that the material they had to work with was thinner than I had been led to believe by critics. The film kept repeating itself in flashback. Do yourself a favor, and watch the trailer to save yourself a couple of hours, because the best scenes were there.

    Thanks, I'll add her (none / 0) (#7)

    I've seen all ... (none / 0) (#3)
by Robot Porter on Sat Feb 27, 2016 at 05:59:01 PM EST
of the Best Picture nominees except ROOM which I will see later tonight.

Everyone thinks DiCaprio is a lock for Best Actor.  But I have a sneaking suspicion Cranston might steal it from him.

The black list is still a big issue with many Academy voters. And everyone loves Cranston.

    I'd really like to see composer ... (none / 0) (#14)

Ennio Morricone win an Oscar tonight.

This is his sixth nomination.  He's never won.  Though he received a lifetime achievement award in 2007.

    He's 87.
