Monday Night TV

I'm so excited that Senor de Los Cielos returns tonight for season 4. It's on Telemundo and has English captioning. At 8:00 (MT), you can watch a special that recaps the first three seasons. At 9:00, the first episode of Season 4 begins.

Here's my recap
of the last season from the finale.

On the recap episode tonight: This is not a show that hesitates to kill off beloved characters, which adds to the suspense, but it's sad watching because some were so good and such a central part of the show for seasons, and it's a reminder we won't be seeing them again.

There will of course be new villains, from corrupt military and government officials (in Mexico and elsewhere) and corrupt police and DEA agents, to bad-a** drug lords from Colombia, and local competitors. There will be new, sexy romantic partners for Aurelio.

This won't be a happy season for Aurelio Casillas (loosely based on Amado Carrillo Fuentes, the head of the Juarez Cartel, who reportedly died in 1997 while having plastic surgery). He will first have to pay (Karma-wise) for all the bad things he's done. And the popular character Chema Venegas (who may or may not be based on El Chapo) won't be back this season, although he could return in season 5, if there is one.

The show airs five nights a week. It's a lot of hours, but it goes quick. Back in September, when the finale aired to Season 3, it left a huge hole in my TV viewing schedule. So I'm really glad it's back.

One other thing that makes this show stand out from other Narco shows is the intricate detail given to design -- the homes and furnishings are really beautiful. The same attention is given to clothing, especially the women characters. They wear some great stuff (and look terrific in it.) [Added: The attention to detail was evident tonight, especially in the room where Aurelio and his nephew Victor argued. I once read in an interview with a show producer that the house details are all authentic -- the only thing they skimp on is not actually having the water turned on for the faucets.

All the prior seasons are on Netflix, You Tube and elsewhere, but I recommend buying the DVDS on Amazon or Ebay. No commercials, unedited and the DVD's have subtitles (rather than close captioning.)
