Trump: Carnival Barkers But no Champions

Queen is complaining that he continues to use "We are the Champions" after being asked not to.

Even musicians supporting Republicans are missing from the appearance list at the convention.

Maybe Republicans don't think they need music when they have Rudy Giuliani to scream like a hyena who didn't get his morning meds.

The New York Times in an editorial trashes Donald Trump and Republicans on the issues.

And Donald Trump's ghostwriter for "The Art of the Deal" tells the New York he's sorry now he put lipstick on the pig to make Trump look good in the book.

“I put lipstick on a pig,” he said. “I feel a deep sense of remorse that I contributed to presenting Trump in a way that brought him wider attention and made him more appealing than he is.” He went on, “I genuinely believe that if Trump wins and gets the nuclear codes there is an excellent possibility it will lead to the end of civilization.”

I find it hard to believe they won't make a bigger noise at the convention whose party they believe the real betrayer to the progressive cause. Repubs are corrupt, nuts and racists and lost half-souls, the Dems are the virtually equally corrupt louts who have no excuse for not, decades ago, offering a tangibly existent, humane, progressive alternative way forward. Evolution is change, adapt, or die. It's brutal. (Brutality. Certainly not something you could use on the other side to gain their acquiescence. Republicans are never brutal. Oh no.) Adapt or die. Civilizations that don't heed that historically proven axiom do so at risk of plummeting death. The same death that seems to tarnish every surface and poison every vein of this Rethuglican Nationalist Convulsion.

both disturbing and frightening. In my darkest moments in my assessment of America's politics and culture, I could never have imagined that such a large portion of the public would find this chaotic hate-fest acceptable in one of the two major political parties.

    Very depressing.

Looking back over the decades, from Nixon on, I can see how this evolved. But I had a more idealistic, and now obviously markedly naive, view of human nature.

The ugliness of the racism and misogyny and the sheer lack of dignity are shocking.

Sad to keep looking at the polls and seeing that there is only a 3-5 point spread between Clinton and Trump. I would leave the country, but there's really nowhere to go. The entire world is threatened by a this virulent US political culture, even if Clinton wins. The House, and possible the Senate, in control of the GOP sends shudders down my spine.

The convention of a national party is calling for the jailing of the opposite party's nominee. Christie as AG would put HRC in prison.

This amounts to a run-up to war, with one party for all intents and purposes having been overtaken by neo-fascists.

It's 1939 again, and the press are the appeasers.

    This will not end well.

    In my opinion (5.00 / 3) (#50)
by CaptHowdy on Wed Jul 20, 2016 at 10:13:57 AM EST
Just my opinion you understand, you can remove the "for all intents and purposes part"

For me very little of this is surprising.  We have talked for months about how dirty and desperate this campaign was clearly going to be.   That said, the one thing that really crosses the line (what line) that's amazed even me in its cravenness was trotting out the grieving mother in prime time to accuse Hillary of killing her son just to promote their ridiculous Behghazi fantasies.

That one I think will go down in the books with Willie Horton and the Daisy commercial.

But, as with the Captain I would remove the "all intents and purposes."  Also, I would bring the dates back to Germany, 1932---the complacency, the finding the guy entertaining and a clown; all without recognizing the imminent danger. And, true, the media is complicit, and all those oafish followers resentful and angry, and looking for handy scapegoats.

And, the jailing of the opposition has moved to execution.... the chants aiding and abetting. It's a progression.

The notion that Clinton is a criminal, that she should be in jail, that she's GUILTY, that she should be "hung on the mall" - in the words of a lunatic United Airlines pilot since thankfully suspended....but will he be back at the yoke in November with Clinton in the WH and deranged enough to steer his plane that way? I would not want to risk a UA flight to find out.

Bottom line, the press remind me of Nazi appeasers in the run-up to WWII.  We have normalized what should be rejected outright as horrific, un-American, fascist, unacceptable to even be discussed.

And the best we get from the fab young Turks at VOX on the Clinton Salem-witch chant led by Christie to the Villagers at the convention  last night ? It was "disturbing". OH my, such strong words from our famously free press, our protectors from fascism. A party calling for the imprisonment of the opposing party's nominee. Led by the mob chants.  Terribly disturbing, indeed.

    And God willing they will.

But it doesn't change the fact that the press has completely abdicated their role as protector of our democracy, as our source of actual un-biased information, as the balance implied by their role as 4th estate.

If Trump loses, the next mutation will simply be worse.

Normalizing the notion that political enemies should be imprisoned, hung, burned at the stake, because the press refuses to do anything but rub their hands and say "oh dear how disturbing", is what leads to disaster. It turns us into Russia or N Korea.

It's why I'm thinking of the MSM as modern-day Nazi-appeasers in the run-up to war.

If it's not Trump, it will be someone worse.

And tonight at the GOP convention, what will be the next chant? "KILL HER"?

Funny bit about Scott Baio (none / 0) (#18)
by CaptHowdy on Tue Jul 19, 2016 at 06:28:06 PM EST
If you look on IMBD you will see his last film, since then some tv work, was CURSED with Christina Ricci and Jessie Eisenberg.  It's actually pretty good.  The movie I mean.  But Baio plays himself, as a has been actor who hits on all the girls none of whom will give him the time of day and who gets bumped from the guest list of a late nite talk show by Carrot Top.

No kidding.  That's Scott Baios real life.  Any wonder he is attracted to the GOP time machine thing?

Scott Baio: "I wrote my speech in church on Sunday."

Tamron Hall, MSNBC: "Were you also in church when you tweeted that picture of Hillary Clinton with the C-word?"

    (Bah-DUMM-Bumm-Bumm!)

And the hits just keep on coming! Here's former Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz, waking up the echos about immigration at an RNC luncheon today:

"I don't want to become you. I don't want to speak your language, I don't want to celebrate your holidays, I sure as hell don't want to cheer for your soccer team!"

And this being the Republican National Convention, the audience cheered and applauded. But were I in charge over at ESPN, I'd publicly can that old jackass for his hateful and poisonous remarks.

This has turned into a prime-time schittshow.

by CaptHowdy on Tue Jul 19, 2016 at 06:59:17 PM EST
You don't know what you are talking about-

    Billboard-

Update: Queen's publishing company, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, has issued an official statement against Trump and the Republicans:

Sony/ATV Music Publishing has never been asked by Mr. Trump, the Trump campaign or the Trump Organization for permission to use "We are the Champions" by Queen. On behalf of the band, we are frustrated by the repeated unauthorized use of the song after a previous request to desist, which has obviously been ignored by Mr. Trump and his campaign.

Queen does not want its music associated with any mainstream or political debate in any country. Nor does Queen want "We are the Champions" to be used as an endorsement of Mr. Trump and the political views of the Republican Party. We trust, hope and expect that Mr. Trump and his campaign will respect these wishes moving forward.

But regardless of the legality it's the irony that's lost on some.

    Charkes Pierce-

This was not the weird part.

The weird part was that this transition was set to "We Are The Champions."
The weird part was the arena full of Republicans singing along to Queen.
An arena full of people singing along to Queen, when their official party platform can be characterized as "strongly anti-Freddie Mercury."
An arena full of people singing along to Queen, when their party's presumptive Vice Presidential nominee said marriage equality would bring about "societal collapse."
An arena full of people singing along to Queen, when their party's presumptive Vice Presidential nominee wants to pull funding from organizations that treat people with the disease that killed Freddie Mercury, unless they "provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior."
Basically, an arena full of people saying "Listen, Freddie: we love your song and we'll use its message to our advantage, but if you want our actual support, you're going to have to behave more like the guys in Florida Georgia Line."
    Disgusting.
And then, of course, Donald Trump approached the microphone and the first thing he said was "Oh, we're gonna win so big, folks," and then he introduced his wife, who recited Michelle Obama's speech from the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
Also, the use of "We Are The Champions" was unauthorized.

is being reported as having approached Kasich's staff earlier seeking Kasich as a vice presidential running mate.  The deal: Kasich, as veep, would be in charge of domestic and foreign matters. The Kasich staffer asked what Trump would be doing, seeing as domestic and foreign matters covered the waterfront.  The answer: Trump would make America great again.

Kasich, obviously, deferred. That role is for Pence, now. Hence, the anti-gay misogynistic Pence to set policies and run things just as he did in Indiana, if Trump should win and the country should lose. The Ohio governor has missed the Cleveland convention and will not endorse him.
