Bump and Update: Call the plagiarism cops -- I think Dick Wolf wrote Donald Trump's speech. Funniest lines so far: "How great are the police? How great is Cleveland?" and "I am your law and order candidate."

The AP fact-checks Trump's speech.

He's dreaming if he thinks Bernie Sanders' supporters will vote for him in droves. There aren't that many angry, marginalized, bigoted police-lovers among those eligible to vote.

Ivanka looked great and gave a true Daddy's girl speech. Since it was all about Trump, there's no reason to think it was a copy cat speech. Melania looked miserable as she spoke. Young Baron couldn't stop fidgeting. Ivanka didn't endorse a single one of his political views. (She said she's an Independent.) Someone broke the embargo and now all the media is publishing the prepared remarks to Donald Trump's speech tonight in Cleveland.

Hunker down, and get ready for what promises to be a dark and stormy night. (Origin of that phrase is here.)

Laugh out loud funny: "I have made billions of dollars in business making deals – now I’m going to make our country rich again."

and "I have loved my life in business. But now, my sole and exclusive mission is to go to work for our country – to go to work for all of you."

Knock yourself out, Mr. Trump, you will still land with a thud in November. We all know this is a game to you, and by November, everyone but your family will be tired of playing.

was from the crowds and their reactions to the speech. The crowds were the ones screaming for blood much like a lynch mob does. The instigator of the lynch mob or the one holding the noose is rarely the one screaming.

i looked up david duke on wiki (a 66 year old man) and searched for the definition of obtuse. i thought it meant vague but clearly i'm wrong - shame on you. i don't know what else you want me to do. i read the articles, i wiki people i dont know (Clara Petacci, seriously?), and i look up words i'm not familiar with. what am i doing wrong?

p.s. i looked up these words before using them: cogent, hysterical, screed. so i'm using them correctly.

If you make an attempt to keep up with current events, you'll be fine. As for the Klansman David Duke has been in the public eye for awhile and is a notorious white supremacist. 25 years ago, when he won the GOP nomination for Louisiana governor, then-President George H.W. Bush denounced him and urged his fellow Republicans to vote for the Democrat, Edwin Edwards, who was a seriously flawed candidate himself, but not an avowed racist. That's how bad David Duke is. So, if he's singing Trump's praises, you best be wary of Trump.

It's a blog. You think Donald knows what he's talking about any more than you? Or I do? I'm currently laying on the couch with my feet up smoking a joint and watching BLOODLINE and net watching at the same time. Our opinions are free. And worth every penny.

This place can be cliquish. The comment sections of most blogs can. I think it's less so than it used to be. But I really hate cliquish. So fu@k um. Us. Whatever.

I admit I thought for a while you were Robot Porter in disguise. But maybe you are not. Don't worry about understanding that. It's an inside joke that would take to long to explaine.

I don't use that word very often ... wanting to be prepared for things, I fortify my sensibilities against being stunned. Now ... I'm in a kind of zone, after sort-of wailing about the hideous picture of some planet that Trump has been portraying. I've had two glasses of wine (maybe I should have had something else) and 3 scoops of ice-cream with dark chocolate sauce. It doesn't help. What the he$$ is this character Trump saying. Here, I'm almost yearning for Reagan's Morning in America ... anything with hope or inspiration or any kind of future other than the decaying dirt he describes.

Husband has secluded himself in another room to gape & watch. Our little doggy wonders what is going on.

Does he smile ... only ugly, only surly anger (sometimes punctuated by loud anger.)

I don't know what else to say. Having watched almost every convention since the '60s, I've never endured such ugliness. Since this is Colorado, maybe I ate something with some unknown edibles that have set off a bad reaction.

Yes, it is visceral. His visceral ugly has finally gotten to me. Law & Order ... Law & order ... Law & Order --- he makes Dick Nixon sound like a pansy. Damn Fascist!

Tomorrow will be a better day. First thing in the morning, with the rising sun, my dog & I will take a long walk--unafraid--and say hi to neighbors, smile and see smiles, and wake to life again.

A friend called later last night--for some reason, she also had been eating ice cream--and, after much thoughtful consideration, we decided that Trump may be right about one thing. He could have a Huuuuge effect on all of us ... because there surely will be lots of late night eating ahead.

The words repulsive and grotesque are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to describing Trump. And, I don't mean just physically.
Husband switched on the TV during the middle of Trump's speech and I just could not bear to watch or listen. Asked him to switch it off, he said, just a few more minutes, then turned to look at me and I guess my expression must have said it all because he then proceeded to switch it off!
I guess he decided it was not worth having to buy a new TV.

the nominee's speech ... yet, but reading the reviews I think I'll pass. But I watched Ivanka Trump's*. Really nice and positive -- after all he's her dad -- but when she introduced him as "The next etc ..." her eyes betrayed her -- says the amateur psychologist :) -- and her whole speech sounded more like a Democrat talking about and hoping for a Hillary Clinton-presidency.

But then after the "not being registered" to vote in N.Y., and naming her son so his initials spell JFK, I'm convinced she more than just leans Democratic.

* As BTD points out about Ivanka Trump's speech, it's positive, devoid of calls for "lock her up", but it needed to have been sorrounded by more positivity of that kind, to really make it "fit".

I still think the danger of him winning is greater than most here do. The country is in a crazy mood and Hillary is not without baggage. Deserved or not.

Capt pointed out Thiel has a strange mix of views, but he gets credit for insight in the economy. You don't amass $US3,000,000,000 by accident.

But what no one has commented on is Thiel is the first openly gay to speak at the RNC about gay rights. More important is the reception his remarks got; huge cheers. Just as important Trump ad-libbed that he was happy about the reception Thiel's remarks got.

Certainly this is not what you would expect at the RNC.

The article clearly states it was information gathered in a Senate subcommittee hearing, from Homeland Security statistics.

she did a great job, with a sweet, complimentary, personal speech introducing her father whom she, despite his political affiliation, no doubt loves. A speech delivered with what so many - most? - other speeches at the Convention lacked, dignity.
If only she hadn't later tried to turn her appearance into a promotion for her own company, it would have been perfect.
