Monday Open Thread

Our last open thread is just about full.

Today's latest: Chief Judge James Boasberg has issued a lengthy order keeping his ban on Trump's use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport people.

In a 37-page order, the judge, James E. Boasberg, said the order should remain in place so that the Venezuelan immigrants could have the opportunity to challenge accusations that they belong to the gang, Tren de Aragua, before the Trump administration can fly them out of the country under the wartime law known as the Alien Enemies Act.

In other news, Trump just appointed another one of his lawyers as acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey.

Ms. Habba, who has no prosecutorial experience and previously ran a small firm specializing in civil litigation, will oversee the work of about 150 federal prosecutors in New Jersey. The position, a political and legal launchpad, has previously been held by prominent conservatives including Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. and the former New Jersey governor Chris Christie.

I wish I had answers, or something constructive or encouraging to say. I don't yet.

This is an open thread, all topics welcome.

is very compelling (thanks for the link, Jeralyn). It may even persuade one or both of the three judges who sounded uncertain at this afternoon's argument. It certainly should.

with the editor of the Atlantic Magazine by mistake.  In his defense, he was drunk.

    I read the article in The Atlantic today. (5.00 / 3) (#5)

Wow. As former Secret clearance holder and someone who just finished 16 years working for a major defense company, all I can say is wow. We had DoD and OPSEC training required every year at my job. Every new weapons program required new OPSEC certification. That these idiots would discuss operational planning and tactics in a commercial chat software is just completely unbelievable. And stupid. And irresponsible. And possibly criminal.

But hey, Hillary had an email server. Lock her up.

I think he probably confused that number with his blood alcohol count or the proof number on his bottle of Maker's Mark bourbon.

running the Trump presidency without Trump (who is busy running the Kennedy Center and scheduling performances). Apparently, this is their modus operandi to evade laws for government record keeping---as criminals are wont to do.  Just the tip of this administration's criminal iceberg.

Pennsylvania held two special elections Tuesday to fill seats in the state legislature that were vacant due to a death and a departure for another job. In the state senate race, the Democrat won, 50-49 (with the other percentage going to a Libertarian), in a district that went Tr*mp by +15 in November and has a 53% R registration edge, reducing the R edge there to 27-23. Could this be a sign? And the Democrat also won the open House seat, 63-35, in a blue district (was 58-42 in the Presidential), thus guaranteeing a 102-101 D majority in the state House, and ensuring that nothing terrible can pass the state legislature (particularly with Shapiro as our governor).
