Rudy Speaks

A condensation of Rudy Giuliani's convention speech:

We always tell you that this is the most important election ever. It's never true. Except this time.

If you were hiring someone for a job, would you hire a foot soldier in the Reagan revolution or a [guffaw and sneer] "community organizer"?

Did you know John McCain was a POW?

It was so tough for Obama to decide whether to vote yes or no in the Illinois legislature that he voted "present" 130 times. When I was mayor, and when Palin was mayor and governor, we didn't vote "present." (Of course, mayors and governors don't vote at all, but let's move on.)

Obama was a celebrity senator. Republicans don't have celebrity politicians, unless you count Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sonny Bono.

A president needs to stay awake until 3 a.m. Hillary could do that. Can Obama stay awake that late? I don't think so. [more ...]

McCain will keep us safe. He stays up really late.

This election is not about change versus more of the same. It's about good change versus bad change. Bad change is bad. Hope is bad. McCain will give us hopeless change. That's good.

McCain will do away with taxes and government and foreign oil. Nuclear power and offshore drilling will keep us safe.

[crowd chants "drill baby drill" for an embarrassingly long time -- I'm not joking]

Obama will increase the size of government. No Republican president would ever do that, right?

Democrats are afraid to say the words "Islamic terrorism." Republicans are not afraid to insult Islam.

Democrats have forgotten 9/11. Not McCain. He's going to bring us victory. In fact, he already did by inventing the surge. The surge has something to do with 9/11, doesn't it? Did I mention 9/11?

Obama flip-flops. [crowd boos] McCain would never do that. Biden should get that VP thing in writing.

Obama steals McCain's ideas. Obama is a copycat.

McCain is a maverick and so is Palin. You can see it in their eyes.

What's that? I'm out of time? No time left to show the Palin video? Did everyone notice the flag pin on my lapel? Did I mention 9/11?

    Remember to tip your waitress.

Well, that's what it sounded like to me. Drill, baby, drill was sickening though I guess that's our future. Everyone wants gas for their cars and they don't care what gets destroyed to get it.

"My interest is in making sure we've got the kind of comprehensive energy policy that can bring down gas prices,...If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage -- I don't want to be so rigid that we can't get something done."

Obama made this statement on August 1.

Yeah. a "well thought-out drilling stategy".
    What crap.

    Face it.
    We're stuck.

Whether it's drill, baby, drill -

or Obama's more intellectual formulation of a drilling "strategy",

both campaigns are going for off-shore drilling.

Both are talking about "clean coal" also.

...not the generally cordial and respectful speechify-ing of the Democratic primary season.

Obama has been careful not to go into attack mode himself, because of appearances.  But he might have to personally go ballistic in his responses to the direct attacks that are being stated directly now.

As long as it's seen as self-defense, Obama will have some room to get angry at things like Giuliani's words.  As long as he addresses his anger towards "those words".  And controlled anger can be a very appealing presidential quality, I think.

The guy who ran NEW YORK CITY for eight years?

Right after Huckabee lied about Palin getting more votes than Biden?

And Romney railing against rich Eastern elites?

Can't say it hasn't been a funny night.

    Rudy on Palin's speech. paraphrased

"That was a heck of a speech. She's only been at it a week and she came up with quite a speech. Some people have years of experience and can't give a speech like that."

except SP did not actually write the speech. Guiliani knows that full well.....

and couldn't stand him last night.

In NYC, Rudy was getting run out of town on a rail before 9/11.
Then came 9/12, and everything changed.  This bully, mean-spirited jerk became "America's Mayor".

Before they were praising him, they were sick of Rudy.  Me?  I'm still sick of him.
