Facebook Rejects Ads That Display Marijuana Leaf

Firedoglake and Students for a Sensible Drug Policy, creators of the Just Say Now campaign to legalize medical and recreational use of marijuana, are protesting Facebook's decision to reject their ads. Facebook objects to the ads because they display a marijuana leaf and Facebook doesn't allow ads for smoking products.

Just Say Now has started a petition to get reinstated.

Post-college people start to disappear.  And it's not that you don't like them anymore, it's just that they moved to London, or India, or wherever.  At my level I see it as a really important alumni networking tool.  And it has actually served a very usefull function at times.  You just gotta be carefull of what you put there.

I have some friends who quit it.  And it has actually had a measurable effect on their ability to do certain things.  It's kind of scary, but that's also kind of how it is now - especially if you are trying to do any kind of business/political action/fundraising/networking with people in their 20s.

no one I am friends with on facebook would give me a hug or an angel.  I don't even know how you do these things.

I really think the issue is, people knowing how to use it correctly.  And for those of us who've been using it this way since day one, it's more of a tool, and our peers also tend to use it that way more.  Plus sharing photos/anecdotes too of course.  But that's almost secondary, and in a way, has become part of the "networking" bit.

I think it really has changed the way that's done.

A bingo is a hit from a water pipe, tobacco of course:)  A monster bingo is a massive hit from a water pipe.

A piece is a water pipe, pipe, chillum, bubbler, etc...a killer piece is a particularly nice high quality pipe or water pipe.

    And that concludes today's lesson:)

kdog is older than me, and while I knew what he meant by killer piece, I'd never heard of a monster bingo.  Although I might have been able to figure it out.

Could also have to do with locality.  What he calls a "bingo" I know as a "rip".

Actually I wonder how much of it has to do with being older.  I know some people who call it "dope" still.  They are all over 50 though.  To me "dope" means "cool", not "pot".

term for the sweet leaf is an oldie but goodie..."reefer".  I just love the sound of it.

We call 'em rips too, or bingers, rippers, pulls...we mighta made up "bingo" in my little circle, as a variation on "binger".  We just would never say "wicked rip" this far south:)

God I love slang...it's the only way to communicate, so much flavor.

by CST on Wed Aug 25, 2010 at 02:04:52 PM EST
about the use of the term wicked.  It's not an adjective so much as an amplifyer.  Think of it as "really". You wouldn't say "really rip", you'd say "really hard rip".  Just like you wouldn't say "wicked rip", you'd say "wicked haaad rip".

There are some variations to this I'm sure, and since it's not an official word, there are no rules.  But for the most part, that's how it's applied.

on the explanation...the DEA is gonna need ebonics and slang translators that are very very specialized by locality, and there will be a constant need for continuing education...and still I guarantee they'll be scratching mad heads listening to those wiretaps.

Harry Potter fans recently on the origin of term "muggles"; which, as I recollect, was a slang term for pot used by New Orleans jazz musicians back in the day.

Years ago, an old AA guy I worked with in a furniture store used to tell my friends and I that we'd "better quit blowin' that gage"..:)

is really frustrating because there is a very famous sports stadium, in Whacko texas no less, with my name and also a very famous jazz musician.
so to find me you actually have to use advanced search.

Are you saying that we should not exercise our first amendment rights here and protest Facebook's decision?

If I don't agree with your agenda, I get it shoved down my throat.

Sounds like you are for eliminating the first amendment.
