Obama starts recounting the 9/11 attacks.

He says years ago Osama escaped from Afghanistan into Pakistan. After he took office, he directed Leon Panetta to make the killing or capture of Osama the top priority.

Last August, they got a lead. It took many months to run it to ground. Osama was within a compound deep into Pakistan. Obama determined last week we had enough intelligence to take action and he authorized an operation.

Today the targeted operation was carried out in Pakistan. No Americans or civilians were killed. They got Osama and recovered his body. Osama bin Laden was brought to justice. [More...]

The killing of Osama is the greatest achievement in our fight against al Qaida.

He stresses that the U.S. is not at war with Islam. Bin Laden was not a Muslimleader, but a mass murderer of Muslims.

He praises Pakistan and says our counter-terrorism efforts with Pakistan helped us locate him. He called Pakistan's leaders afterwards and they agree Osama's death is a positive thing for both of our countries.

Obama says justice has been done.

celebrations outside the WH just seem wrong. Flag waving and cheering/chanting like a sports event . . .

perhaps a candlelight memory of those lost in 9/11 and the following wars would be more fitting.

it looks pretty much like the same gang that would be at a sports event. Many young men, maybe drunk on sheer joy I will say charitably. I just don't think this is the best side of people.
Also I don't like the crowds becoming the story.

I always thought it unlikely Bin Laden was obtaining dyalisis in a cave in Afghanistan.

Listen, you won't get me to mourn OBL, but neither will you get me to feel ANYthing about it. Celebrating this, after the murderous blunders we continue to make, I don't know, nothing about it seems right. Bow your head, be thankful, but we're no force of righteous freedom here. And we ALL know that.

(like say if he'd b in the tribal region) I'd say its hard for Pakistan to have known, but seeing as he was shot in a massive custom built mansion less than a 1000 yards from their version of West Point, yeah an explanation would be nice.

probably allow a bin Laden exception. Going forward though, I bet we see less cooperation and a 'you got what you came for, now stay out' attitude.

This IS the real Pakistan :) It was probably the CIAs infiltration of ISI that caused us to find out where he was.
