Mitt Romney Lectures Radio Host on Mormonism and Abortion

Update 11/5: The video has now been viewed 1.8 million times.

Here is the real Mitt Romney. Via the Washington Post, Mitt Romney doesn't like talking about his religion these days, but in 2007, he was quite vocal about it, lecturing a radio host about the principles of his church and his stand on abortion.

His temperament hasn't changed much, it's the Romney attitude we saw at the debates -- Let me talk and it's my way or the highway. [More...]

Most notable, Romney disavows the position that one can oppose abortion personally but be in favor of other people having the right to choose. He says that is the position of the Mormon church, but not his view. "That's not okay. I was wrong. We should have as a society a prohibition on abortion." (my emphasis.)

He says while he was Gov. of Mass, "I vetoed any bill that was in favor of choice. I was entirely consistent."

The weird thing is that the Radio guy seemed to agree with him and wanted to help him make the point that he was pro life but Mitt was too busy being an A hole to let the guy say anything.

    He was on Mitten's side. (none / 0) (#7)

The radio guy is a right wing talker out of Des Moines--WHO Radio, a clear channel station owned by Clear Channel.

A while back David brooks skewered mitt in a column, I wonder if somewhere along the way Mitt didn't treat him like he treated this guy.

He was all over the place and I don't know what he meant and I don't want to watch it again.

    I thought it was quite an overreaction. (5.00 / 1) (#2)

Especially that part where he almost screamed "I know more about my religion than you do!"

...Rival Scientology for kooky cults.  It was started by a con artist (hello, Elron) whose primary theological goal was sexual access to women other than his wife.

No wonder it caught on with his male friends, and no wonder it is a cult where women are repressed.

In the aftermath of the Reverend Wright fauxgasm, the complete absence of "vetting" of the Mormon church is amazing.

    I would live to see him explain that (5.00 / 1) (#12)

Actually I call him The Romney, although the factory designation is something like The Romneybot 9000.

in Harpers a year ago, the official tenets of Mormonism seem to be theologically akin to The Protestant Ethic in 'roid rage mode..

One has to ask, if material wealth, good health, relative serentity etc are of necessity manifest signs of "God's blessing", than doesn't it follow that those in travail of various kinds - be they children or adults - are those from whom the Good Lord has turned his face, the "accursed of God", as it were -- children of Cain and sons of Ham? It would seem to follow logically..
