The Emmys have been so boring. Maybe it is the low-key production. But they just picked up with Aaron Paul winning Best supporting actor for Breaking Bad.

Benedict Cumberbatch is an amazing actor. Perhaps you don't realize that in every part he plays he disappears, and there is never any overlap between his roles and himself. Benedict is not the same person as Sherlock, or Julian Assange, or Christopher Tiejens in Parade's End, or Hawking or Van Gogh or either of his stage performances of Frankenstein and his monster, or Kahn in Star Trek or his characters in 12 Years a Slave or August, Osage County. If you didn't know he was the actor, you wouldn't recognize him. He becomes the person, and they are all very different people - in looks, voice, accents, mannerisms, body movements. When he was Smaug, he became Smaug. It is a rare thing.
But...... I don't think the episode of Sherlock that was chosen for the Emmys was the best of the program - but perhaps the best acting for both BC and Martin Freeman. I think the first episode in the first season was great, and the first episode and last in the second season were super. They were passed over - so now they are catching up on the great performances, the excellent writing, photography and direction.
Sherlock received seven Emmys in total, all deserved and overdue, in my opinion.

Totally love Bene, agree with all of the above.

But Billy Bob was wonderful, and that Sherlock role is barely a stretch for Bene.

work for Bill and who wanted to be in the study, but she had some physical issues that disqualified her.

Love the way the show's been tip-toeing around Libby's attraction to black men.

So much inner weirdness in this show - maybe that's why I like it.

Why isn't Anna Gunn in the lead actress category? Then Betsy Brandt could be in the Supporting Actress category, and BB could have had an acting sweep. Betsy is phenomenal too.

I have listened to way more DVD commentary tracks than is normal or healthy, and I have never heard any producer/ director be more complimentary of his team than Vince Gilligan. His favorite word is 'wonderful' and he applies it to everyone from the directors to the extras, to the people that rented them the house they used for Hank and Marie's. June and Fred - he mentions them so much I know their names. He really seems like a great guy to work for, and it certainly shows in the quality.

Also, Laura Fraser who plays Lydia is Scottish. She has the loveliest brogue. At the end of one episode he has her cut loose with a swear on the commentary track....she says something about a 'son of a c*ting who*' . Really funny.

and eventhough the BB season finale seemed like a lifetime ago, it's the best show that's ever been on television, and the last season had its best episodes. These Emmys are well-deserved even if they're "boring" because BB seems well in the past.

But you should reconsider. You are missing a lot. In the last few years there has been an honest to god renaissance in tv.
It's being called the golden age.
But you need cable. Even basic. FX, AMC would do it. Those two channels and networks would give you the vast majority of awards won last night. That would give some better stuff than you are going to find in any theater.

Just mt opinion.

I do agree with you that TV has never been better. The Mrs. SUO and I binged hard for several weeks on BB after the series ended.

The only time we could fit it in was after 9-ish at night and we would often watch 3-5 episodes. The next day's productivity was often significantly compromised!
